Hi,

Has anyone applied for a police clearance certificate (while in the UK) recently? I've been back in England for two years but I lived in Thailand for ten, and my current job wants a police clearance certificate from my time there.

I've looked at the information on the London Thai embassy website - looks like I need to get my fingerprints done here, and then apply by post? Do they really need TWO originals of the fingerprints? They're expensive! £113 for the first set and £57 for a second..

I remember the years of having to supply two of every single document for my visa, so I'm assuming it's correct, but........ hoping for someone to tell me they only needed one and a photocopy!

Thanks

Where did you get your prints taken? I wrote to Thames Valley police a few months ago and got bugger all response.

Well, I tried it once years ago. But even after 3 reminders I got no reply. But the application and the 3 reminders did the job at the end😂

To update - not having much luck with this.

I ended up applying in June. It arrived at the headquarters a week later (I tracked it online). Stupidly, I forgot to include my passport photos, but I received an email from someone there mid July (personal email address but asked for the passport photos for the police clearance certificate, so I assume not a scam), and said I could send a digital copy. Since then, I've had no reply. I've emailed that person again, emailed the police department, filled out the contact form on their website multiple times (which says you will receive a reply within 24 hours).... nothing. I don't want to apply again as I already had to go to Bristol to get two sets of fingerprints (about £150 for the pleasure). My HR department are quite rightly chasing me up on this frequently, and it's difficult trying to explain the reality of Thai time when their website says the certificate will be sent within 25 days!

I agree. I had to turn down job offers in Education as they needed a police clearance check from Thailand. I told my perspective employers what they had read on thr internet about the procedures and timings, were far from reality.

The reason I needed one was I had spent more than six months of the previous five years out of the country.

We agreed I would wait until I had been in UK for five years, thus negating the need for piece clearance from abroad, and apply again.
