About 250 firefighters have been deployed by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation to prevent fires in the western forest complex from spreading. So far, 1,600 hectares of forest have been damaged as the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) issues warnings of the threat of forest fires in nine provinces.

According to the department, more than 200 hotspots were detected in the western forest complex in the past week, particularly in the Salak Phra Wildlife Sanctuary, but the numbers have been reduced to about 60 by 250 firefighters who, with the support of helicopters, have been deployed to stop them from spreading.

Narupon Thipmontha, chief of the department’s Forest Fire Prevention and Control Office, said that forest fires have started about two weeks earlier this year, due to the dry weather and access to the forests by villagers searching for forest products and wildlife hunting.

Bloody locals don't give a rats about the environment or the effect they have on other people.

It’s time for some harsh penalties, so that these a-holes stop burning. Same with people burning their waste. I am in a condo in Hua Hin right now, and every morning the neighbor burns his waste, covering the whole condo building in smoke. What’s amazing to me is that nobody says anything about it, apparently it’s totally fine to burn your waste and let dozens of people choke on the smoke that causes. Completely ridiculous.

It’s the Thai way! It’s a lack of intelligence and education. And to think there are western families raising children in that filth!🤮🤦🔥

Have you reported it to the police.

If I were living here I maybe would have done that, but I’m here for just a few weeks. Besides, I don’t want any trouble with any Thai. I keep reading on this forum that, as a farang, you should never get involved in a fight or an argument with a Thai, because you’re going to lose, no matter what.

Fair enough.... but if it goes completely unreported one can't expect anything to improve.

Surely they have garbage collection in HH?

There is some type of garbage collection, but I see (and smell) lots of people burning their waste, so maybe people have to pay for it? Last time I was here was 13 years ago and I don’t remember it being this bad back then. The air quality is also a lot worse than it was 13 years ago. All I know is that I won’t be coming back any time soon.

So how many water dumping choppers does Thailand have?

Send in the fighter jets Oh wait they are no good to stop fires, but lets buy some more anyway. Are the water cannons still in Bangkok? they should be stationed over there in the first place.

Once again putting fires out, what about been proactive and catch some of

these arsonists that are setting these fires , a harsh prison term for some,

may make others think twice about  about setting fires ,
