Levels of PM2.5 soared in in and around the capital yesterday. Government offices and private companies were advised to allow their employees to work from home today and tomorrow.


Over 3,000 fire hotspots were detected in central and north east Thailand earlier this week and almost 15,000 were detected in Cambodia. Forecasters expect pollution to get worse before it improves in the next few days.
 
Thailand and Australia have agreed to consider introducing a mutual visa exemption scheme to allow travel and business activities.


Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and the Governor-General of Australia  David Hurley met yesterday in Mangkok. The aim is to boost tourism and to strengthen the Thailand-Australia Free Trade Agreement.

 

Ministry of Agriculture is seeking a budget of 411 billion baht, more than three times that of last year, it claims the funds will be used to help farmers triple their income over the next 4 years by finding new markets, dealing with fishery problems, solving farmers debt, and tackling haze pollution. 

 

Police in Phuket  arrested a Chinese woman for keeping a lion cub. 


Her arrest follows complaints that she placed the 2 month old cub on display in her coffee shop. 


Police and wildlife officials went to the coffee shop and then to her hotel room  where they found the woman with the baby cub. Officers say the woman bought the cub in January for 250 thousand baht, but she failed to produce supporting documents.
 
Twelve newlyweds, including Thai, Chinese, Malaysians, and Indonesians, took part in the 27th Undersea Wedding Ceremony in Trang Province yesterday, Valentines day. They participated in the seabed registration where the local Governor presided in front of the Emerald Cave.

Mr Pra-bowo Subi-anto yesterday claimed victory in Indonesia’s presidential election, The Defence Minister won a resounding victory with nearly 60 per cent of the vote in polls, based on unofficial quick counts of sample votes. He advised the public to wait for official results from the Elections Commission.
