Labour Victories at Bi-Elctions

Recommended Posts

Labour overturned an 18,000 Tory majority at Wellingborough, a 28.5% swing while the 16.4% swing to Labour in Kingswood is being referred to as ‘Modest’.

This together with the news of the UK being in recession puts my punt on a May election, I very much doubt Sunak can hold the Tories together much longer than that.

Let the games begin.

You do realise that by using a quote from the Guardian, that some of the conspiracy theory nut jobs, will never believe it.

Waiting for the claims that the Guardian only prints left wing lies, and the reality is the Tory’s  second place was really a moral victory, in their alternative reality.

Sorry I see Sunak has beaten them to it.

Can you call it a real by election with only a 36 and a 37% turn out, Labour will be happy.

This Reform UK party, got 13% of the vote, may be like the Liberals do well at byelections but fail miserably at the general elections, a case of watch this space??

Reform will split the traditional vote, that's all they will do and that's all they want to do. They won't win a seat. Since they have no notion of rule, policy or manifesto, that's probably a good thing

So they will dilute the Tory vote whereupon they will be cast into the wilderness, where they belong. Buh-bye.

Meanwhile, they will also dilute the Labour majority in parliament so that they will be hamstrung on doing any of the more radical changes their loony-left want. They may also need to conjure up some 'coalitions' with the sleazy and obsequious in order to perform the fundamentals of government. That 'bout right Theresa?

In the meantime, the 10-20% of the electorate who do vote Reform will be patting themselves on the back for at least a year or until the first climate-change induced flood or famine or pestilence. Then, when they realize that even under a different government, their quality of life, their savings and their futures, just like the old people, are still being flushed down the toilet, they'll still be whining with "Help! My is my life still sh_t?! Why?..."

Why? Because that's what happens to taxpayers.

Let's be honest the UK doesn't have one decent and honest political party, especially as the choices by their voting system (fptp) only favours either the Conservative Party or the Labour Party. At the moment there is not a lot to choose between both parties, the British voters have very little choice.

And it's that sort of wiff-waff that encourages the likes of Sunak to say stuff like 'the mid-terms are always bad for the incumbent' and 'there's no enthusiasm for labour'

Hey Rishi, these are the 'end of terms' and there's even less enthusiasm for your clique where over 40% of your present parliamentarians have already said they're not up for the fight and won't be standing for re-election EVER again.

Quitters!

I haven't got a clue as to the point you are trying to make, what ever it is....it has nothing to do do with my post...... Just to reiterate both parties are worse than useless. The Conservatives are more socialist than Labour and Labour doesn't have a clue what it is!

I agree. Let the games begin.

Labour to win the next election. Nothing to change in the next 5 years as Starmer has said no tax rises and no more spending, as has been proved by his Uturns

A change in government is not going to magic extra money. Only tax rises will.

Unfortunately, those that whinge and whine don't understand if they want more public services, they have to pay.

No political party has the balls to go for the required tax rises or less spending. Hence, nothing will change.

Starmer hasn't ruled out tax rises. He has only ruled out increasing income tax rates.

Yes. To be precise, you are correct.

However, I believe the general working public generally relate tax rises or tax cuts to income tax. That's why I was less specific.

Sorry bob, i wasn't suggesting you were wiff-waffing and I fundamentally agree with all you say and how it's Hobson's Choice for the beleaguered British voter.

The wiff-waff comment was about Sunak's reactions, underlining the fact we all know that he, his party and politicians on either side don't have a bloody clue any more. Regardless of where they come from, their exposure to 'Westminster life' has collectively addled their brains.

Thanks for the reply, I do respect your views on most things. 👍

If Reform dilute the Tory vote that has the effect of increasing Labour's majority, not decreasing it.

I suspect it is all part of a grand Tory strategy. Their time in office is over, they will now pollute the waters for the incoming Labour Party leaving the treasury empty, social service es and the NHS cut to the bone, and lower revenue combining. Starmer is as useless as Sunak in my opinion, but time will tell. I tend to thin Labour will be a one term government and when all the hope turns into dismal reality and Starmer does nothing for inflation, poor economy, war, ever lengthening waiting lists for the NHS, scandals, more cut backs to social services, etc etc and Starmer sits there doing nothing but passing tax cuts for billionaires and multinationals, then reality will dawn on people. Labour is exactly the same as the vile Tories. At the 2029 election the Tories will be swept back into power by blind voters with no memories.

Tory/ Labour, two sides of the same coin, like a Victorian 'rotten borough'.

The Poor will get neck end broth and the billionaires will get richer and richer and pay less and less in taxes. Labour should have stuck with Corbyn....he has some pro-working class policies.

Taxation is not ‘extra money’ it’s a redistribution of existing money.

Extra money is created by growing the economy.

There’s plenty of economic growth easily accessed by simply reversing the trade barriers the Tories inserted between the UK and its largest/closest trading partners.

I'm speaking about government spending. Governments make money from taxes.

Brexit was voted for by the electorate. The government acted upon that.
