The onion rings are the best I've ever had anywhere and the other food is great as well.

Thats a good idea, I was there for the Stereophonics after party, great views!! I haven't been there since tho, is the menu any good?

If you like Indian, Indus on 26 is fantastic and the ambience is great. Perfect for a romantic meal.

Hi Doza, yeah I love Indus, I had their lunch menu last week actually, really nice. Unfortunately I feel a bit bloated after Indian food so maybe not the best idea for a "romantic" evening! :o

The Rang Mahal at the Rembrandt used to be my favorite high end Indian in BKK but I now reckon the relatively new Indus in Suk Soi 26 is better... Location and ambience are nicer too...

I haven't been to the Rembrandt, but I agree about Indus, by far the best Indian food that I have had in Bangkok.

And last but not least, Coyote on Phrom Pong. You should try their nachos with chicken and also fajitas with prawns. Best Mexican food that I've ever tasted

Not sure about this one. IMO the food in Coyote is pretty average, not a bad atmosphere tho, especially on a Thursday (Ladies night :o )

I thought I would dig this thread up again as I want to go somewhere nice to eat again tonight (my birthday :o) , any new suggestions for a quiet, romantic restaurant, not too expensive (1500-2000 for 2, excluding drinks).

Does anyone know of a decent Tapas restaurant as well? I have heard of Rioja, but have never been. Any good?

I've been out of town for a bit (2 years actually!) so I'm out of touch. I always used to love Ana Garden on the corner of Thong Lor soi 3. I went for dinner there with a group of friends once. Somebody else's guest got so hammered she fell backwards off a chair and split her head open. :o I didn't go back again out of shame and embarrassment! Is it still there? Does it still do the best gai-phet-met-mamuang? (did I remember how to say that right?) I know 24 months is a long time in restaurant-years!

Anybody go to Park 2 in Bang Na? It always had such good grub and lovely, lovely atmosphere.

I'm moving back over next week - will be very excited to revisit old haunts and discover new ones.

I think these two have been mentioned before on another similar thread but:

The Good View and that place on the corner of Thong Lor 13 (the food is better at the latter, but you'd be hard pushed to beat the Good View for general ambience). The big outdoor place on the corner of Soi Ekamai (opposite the bus terminal) is also very good - great food, service, atmosphere, people, particularly on a Friday night. And it's open 24 hours...

Had a couple of good night's at "Good View" Chiang Mai.

Nice food, good ambience and cheap :o

I went to the Chang Mai Good View several Decembers ago. The food was delivered cold. But the staff were pleasant...

Granted, there are always good and bad nights at any restaurant so it's handy to hear a positive review (I'll now go back a second time to check them out...)

:o For those who are willing to move out of Sukhumvit area.

Name: Lido

Location: Soi Sribumphen, Yanawa.

Have just polished off a delishus Tiramisu with a vino rosso per favore.

Medium priced, more of a Trattoria than a Ristorante...spinach to die for.

And my favorite liquer, Limoncello goes down well...But to each their

own taste....I dont venture far from home and enjoy the villagio

atmosphere of same soi that I have mentioned...bon apetito blah blah..

Re Ekamai, assuming you mean the Banrai Coffee Shop....

Taksura near democracy monument (across the street from cafe democ, turn down the alley with pink bank on main road and listen for music, look for people). Dishes are 60-120 THB, some of the spiciest and best food I've had in thailand. Atmosphere consists of dingy old house, dim lighting and hip 20 something crowd. The place is rad. Highly recommended from a food tourist in Bangkok.

I just scanned through this thread and I'm really surprised that no one mentioned Kinnaree (sorry if I missed it).

It is a wonderful Royal Thai food restaurant on Suk Soi 8 (about half way down on the left side). The food, service, and ambiance, is amazing. It is in the general price range mentioned at the beginning of this thread (not cheap but not the most expensive either) and it is a great, romantic place to take the wife or Gf. They have very fancy Thai dishes (some I haven't seen anywhere else), that are all delicious. We discovered it a couple of years ago and still eat there every time we travel to Bangkok (almost monthly) from Hua Hin.

Try it. I think you will be pleased! :o

I guess so. Never really noticed what it was called, but the inside bit is kind of coffee-shoppy. The outside bit is a proper restaurant. Can't say I've ever been there to specifically drink coffee (I hate the stuff), so I can't add much to Onethailand's remark about it being terrible. The food is definitely good outside and the 24 hour thing is a huge plus for late night munchies.

I'd also like to nominate the big BBQ place in Bangkapi. Been there a few times recently. Again, no idea what it's called, but it's easy to find (right on the corner of Lat Phrao 113). Best BBQ I've had in the city by a mile - 109 bht all in (food only). The only drawback is it's a real pain in the nuts to get there. Only options, unless you live nearby or are driving, are taxi (usually costs a fortune because of the monstrous traffic on Lat Phrao) or bus from MRT Lat Phrao (takes forever). You can however get the klong boat to Mall Bangkapi if you go early enough (probably best anyway because it's always rammed, despite the size) and walk from there (about 40 mins from Pratunam or Asoke/Petchaburi piers).

Me I prefer the vanilla choices: Sizzler, McDonalds, Burger King, Pizza Company, and any other non-Thai food establishment that catches my fancy.

Only suggestion that I have taken from TV, Sunrise Tacos, was very disappointing. I don't know why I was expecting decent Mexican food in Bangkok, but I thought I would give it a shot. Taco Bell puts them to shame. I am sure that being from Arizona where real Mexican food made by real Mexicans ruined the experience for me.

Favs so far have to be :

La Banyon formerly on Sukhumvit soi 8, now in the wind after 18 years.

Only pressed duck in Bangkok and as good as Talevent in Paris.

Next is

Dinning On the Rocks at Six Senses Hideaways

formerly Silla Evason on Samui

A world class magician of a fusion style chef.

Also like Betlenut and Poppies in Chaweng.

And Bikini Barbeque in Lamai for jamaican ribs.

I am seriously doubting that you ever put one foot in these mentioned places...

July 14th at La Banyon for my wedding aniversary.

We had the truffles; duck #20866, our friends had

the cognac #20867 I think. Yes, married on Bastille day.

Michel et Bruno treat you well. I hope then can find new lodgings

Talevent twice when I live in Paris 1995 - 1999

Long since forgotten my duck's numbers.

I also took a couple of apres midi classes at Le Cordon Bleu.

Dinning On The Rocks last year, twice. July 22nd and once earlier.

My friend was the classical/jazz guitarist there

and another friend is the sax player. I'd sit in occasionally.

Betlenut Nov 24th 07 Poppies once also.

I have also eaten at Louis Quatorze Hotel Paris a Monaco,

et manger le degustation de Alain Ducase. Et La Cherve d'Or a Eze

both 1994

And eaten at Joel Robichon just before he sold it to Ducase

and he got M stars 4-5-6. M. took them back, then gave them back again.

Love Robichons 5 minute cooking show.

And there's a nice little place near Metro Hauvier-Caurmartin on the north road

down the back from Monmartre. Great food and reasonable too.

(Sorry for the spelling, forgotten the name, but not the food)

Ausi plusier foir a l'Ecole French cullinary institue, NYC a bas Broadway.

Une foir comme un guest de Alain Selac.

And three times at Bouley before he went bakery only.

Tribeca grill and Chantarelle also. Lived in Tribeca 1991-1995, France 95-05

Are we caught up yet.

Oh yeah I can cook too. Studied Escoffier from scratch for a spell.

North and south italian. And asiatic; started with Indoniesian 35 years ago.

I like the guy at Dinning OTR. He can blend multiple flavor centers

that fade in and out over time, and even make it seem to cross continents.

Taillevent never did "canard a la presse" (unfortunately Mr Vrinat is not with us anymore to confirm it) ; so, I assume you mistaken with "La Tour d'Argent". Anyway, I agree with you Alain Ducasse was brilliant when working at Monte-Carlo Louis XV (sorry not 14!) and La Chevre d'Or (Eze-sur-Mer) was at that time (90's) a real bargain... Happy epicurism...
