In the wake of a visit by US national security adviser Jake Sullivan, Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, found itself under heavy missile attack in the early hours of Thursday, marking the first such assault in six weeks. Reports indicated that more than 25,000 individuals sought refuge in the city's metro stations, evoking memories of the war's early days as videos and images circulated on social media.

The attack, allegedly perpetrated by Russia, involved the firing of two ballistic missiles and 29 cruise missiles at the Kyiv region. Fortunately, all missiles were reportedly intercepted, although falling debris caused injuries to around a dozen individuals, with no fatalities reported. The aftermath revealed scenes of destruction, with shattered windows, damaged buildings, and displaced residents grappling with the aftermath.

Valentyna Ivanivna, an 80-year-old resident, recounted the harrowing experience of being awakened by a deafening blast, which left her home with broken windows. Similarly, Anastasia Shulha, a local business owner, lamented the repeated attacks on her establishment, emphasizing the urgent need for repairs to ensure security.

Despite the resilience displayed by Kyiv's residents, concerns persist about the potential impact on critical infrastructure and residential areas. While no major facilities were reportedly hit, images depicting a large crater near residential buildings underscored the perilous nature of the situation.

The timing of the attack, following Sullivan's visit and concurrent with a NATO military delegation's first visit to Kyiv since the Russian invasion, raises questions about its strategic significance. President Volodymr Zelensky seized the opportunity to renew calls for increased military support from allies, emphasizing the importance of robust defense mechanisms against future threats.

Furthermore, revelations regarding the origin of the ballistic missiles, potentially of North Korean manufacture, highlight the international dimensions of the conflict and its broader implications. Reports suggest that North Korea's alleged support for Russia further complicates the geopolitical landscape, prompting concerns about the escalation of hostilities.

In response to the escalating crisis, efforts to secure additional military aid for Ukraine have encountered obstacles in the US Congress. Despite assurances from Sullivan regarding bipartisan support for aid packages, challenges persist in navigating legislative hurdles and securing timely assistance.

Amidst the turmoil, Adm. Rob Bauer's visit with a NATO delegation signals solidarity with Ukraine and underscores the shared commitment to democracy and security. Bauer's remarks emphasized the transformative role of Ukraine in modern warfare and offered reassurance of continued support from NATO allies.

As Kyiv grapples with the aftermath of the missile barrage and navigates the complexities of international diplomacy, the resilience of its residents and the solidarity of its allies stand as beacons of hope amidst the turmoil of conflict.

I said, yesterday, I think that Russia would punish Ukraine for it's attacks on Russian refineries. Didn't take long, did it?

What a load of tosh. The west has no right to complain if Nth Korea sends missiles to Russia, after keeping this war going with western missiles.

Do they think Nth Korea is a friend of America, or something equally stupid?

I heard on the radio news that more missiles were fired at Kyiv. Too soon to find a link on the internet, so not sure of details.

I did say that Russia will punish Ukraine for any attack on Russian soil, so who will be left standing when it's all over?
