Seeking advice for new stay possible.

Recommended Posts

My mother and I are currently living in Chiang Mai. Our 30-day tourist visa extension will expire on April 12th. This is our first time entering Thailand in 7 years. We are seeking a border run or a new tourist visa. We are Chinese nationals. The Thai embassy in Vientiane, which is relatively easy to obtain a tourist visa from, is fully booked until April 25th. The plan is to fly there directly, which costs less than $100 per person, stay for 3-4 days, then enter Udon Thani by land and fly back to Chiang Mai, which is also less than $100 per person. However, we don't want to wait in Vientiane for as long as 15 days (visa processing takes 2 working days). Other embassies seem to be farther away, and it's unclear if they are similar. We have considered going to Chiang Khong and Huay Xai border for a border run, but my mother gets car sick and is almost 70 years old, so she may not be able to endure the 5.5-hour car ride. Are there any other border run options or ways to obtain a new visa with a price relatively close to or not exceeding $120 per person that we can consider?

Thinking you have other options.

For example you can fly direct from CM to places such as HCMC.

The evisa for vietnam is simple process.

$25usd.

Spend few days there and fly back to CM for another 30 visa exempt entry.

Thinking new rules visa exempt for Chinese nationals started March.

Of course that 30 can be extended by 30.

Maybe good option for mother.

According to their website, though, Hoh Chi Min City do have a special condition for PR China nationals "who do not have a residence in Vietnam" but "may be able to apply for a Tourist/ Transit visa once if they have round trip ticket to and from Thailand, evidence of accommodation in Thailand, and adequate finance."

Maybe Savannakhet would be an alternative possibility if they couldn't meet Hoh Chi Min's requirements and it's single-entry - rather than multi-entry - tourist visas that they're after and they could meet their financial requirements? Don't know how easy the consulate is to get to from Chiang Mai, though.

fly to HCMC is different to vientiane?for visa exempt? no direct flight from hcmc to CM,so we also need to pass unfriendly BKK or DMK customs?

thanks for your replay, but I'm not found the "special condition" text.  fly to savannakhet is a litte bit expensive at about $172 single fly per person.

 - Special conditions:

                1. Citizens of the People’s Republic of China who do not have a residence in Vietnam may be able to apply for a Tourist/ Transit visa once if they have round trip ticket to and from Thailand, evidence of accommodation in Thailand, and adequate finance.

If you want to re-enter visa exempt by air at Chiang Mai Airport, you could fly to Hanoi instead. There are direct flights between Chiang Mai and Hanoi.

for visa exempt?

Chinese nationals can now enter visa exempt (without a visa).
Exit and re-enter Thailand, either by land or air, and you will be granted a stay of 30 days.
This can be extended by a further 30 days at Immigration.

Is chiang mai air port a friendly air port that I can leave and enter in same day or next day?

You can return same day, but perhaps your Mother may want to stay one night for a rest.

You shouldn't have a problem on re-entry at any.
