BANGKOK (NNT) - The Thai Customs Department is stepping up efforts to control the import and sale of e-cigarettes, barakus, shishas, and e-barakus, by imposing heavy fines on those who import such products.

Customs Department Spokesperson, Panthong Loykulnan, announced the new rules under which importers will be fined two times the total value of the items; this total includes the price, customs tax, and VAT. The new law puts e-cigarettes in the same category as highly regulated items like alcohol and tobacco products.

The government has shown its determination through recent actions. In Si Sa Ket province, officials carried out a raid on a local tattoo shop suspected of illegal e-cigarette sales. They confiscated thousands of vaping devices and a large amount of cash. Two people involved in the business were arrested and could face fines of up to two million baht.

A similar raid happened in Rayong province where two shop owners were caught selling e-cigarettes and associated products. During the operation, the authorities seized multiple vaping accessories and a list of customer orders.

That seem to be able to slip by them....

So tobacco sold at 7-11 is not a threat?

Very good, right move, right decision 👍👏🙏
