On Tuesday, May 7th, Industry Minister Pimphattra Wichaikul confirmed that eight containers of cadmium waste have been moved from Samut Sakhon to Tak province. The move is part of an ongoing environment cleanup effort. On Monday, eight trucks successfully transported the waste, which marks a step forward in the cleanup.

Pimphattra acknowledged the logistics issues in maintaining the transport schedule. She believes having more trucks would help meet cleanup deadlines. She also spoke about concerns over industrial safety, including the frequent fires at factories, which she partly blamed on the current extreme heat.

In response to these safety concerns, the National Environmental Board has instructed each province and relevant authority to examine factory areas that are at a high risk. They have 20 days to provide their findings to both the board and the Ministry of Industry. The Department of Factories conducts the inspections.

There have been rumors in the House of Representatives that some of the factory fires could have been intentionally started to avoid new regulations. However, Pimphattra believes these incidents are more likely due to security problems than intended arson. She has called for increased monitoring and intervention from the security sector, including the police and the Department of Special Investigation, to effectively handle these issues.
