BANGKOK (NNT) - Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has committed to implementing sustainable development in Bangkok's Old Town before his term concludes in 2026. During a meeting in Samphanthawong district, Chadchart outlined his vision for transforming the neighborhoods along the canals in the Rattanakosin area, including Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem and Khlong Ong Ang, among others.

Chadchart recently engaged with business operators and residents in Talat Noi, Yaowarat, and Phahurat areas to gauge interest in more frequent road closures during weekends to boost commercial activities.

The Bangkok governor also proposed converting certain roads into pedestrian zones and turning them into street food and dining areas. These changes aim to replicate the success seen in the Song Wat area, where local collaboration led to substantial neighborhood revitalization with support from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).

The Samphanthawong District Office is now in the process of collecting feedback from local businesses and residents to formulate a development action plan by the end of the year. Public forums will also be held to ensure community members can directly contribute their views and expectations for the district's future development.
