Mexico elects North America's first female (and Jewish) president/PM

Featured Replies

This is a big f-in deal!

Claudia Scheinbaum Mexico's new president!

Mexico does what the USA and Canada haven't.

While her being a woman.in a country associated with machismo and femicide is legitimately being highlighted, her being a Jew [ethnically, not religious) isn't chopped livet either.

Mexican presidents always promote their Christianity in campaigns. Obviously Scheinbaum hasn't done that yet that and her very Identifiable Jewish name have not stopped her.

I would hope that she can create better relations with the US as she was educated there, has close relatives there, and of course speaks fluent English.

I expect she will be raising the International profile of Mexico in general which is well deserved as Mexico is a very important country.

This perspective may take a bit of the "shine" off of Sheinbaum's landslide victory:

"Mexico has its first woman president. But her big win may be a bigger danger to democracy and security."

Yes part of the international trend towards autocracy. Mexico can do what it will within its borders. Let me know when they invade Poland.
