I am a Thai-American (born to Thai parents but born in the United States) and I am always curious if there is any differences between us and the people born in Thailand in terms of anything such as attitude, lifestyle, etc.

What are your opinions?

Have you been to Thailand before? If you haven't and you come here for the first time I think you'll find yourself feeling almost as much a foreigner as the rest of us.

I've got a couple of Thai-American friends living here in Bangkok. Both of them run businesses and do quite well for themselves, but they too experience culture gaps every now and then.

As Chingy said, it's really the culture you grow up in that influences how you think and act.

I am Thai-american Thai mom and American father but i was born in thailand and came to the states when i was 3 When I finally went back to thailand in 1987 My mom told me the custom's or should i say the Do's and Dont's

Most of the people I met wanted to talk to me because I went to Chum phae, I guess they didn't see many Farangs there :o Well Most of them wanted to come and talk to me Ask me about the US. Big difference from living in the US

Mostly people in the US just say hi and then there on their way Some talk to you. But Thais seem to want to know more about you.

join the farang club :o. You'll have culture shock big time otherwise.

More even as a western person because Thai citizens won't be able to diferentiate between you and a thai born person.

Of course maybe you won't get overcharged so much :D

Do you both speak Thai?

Are you asking me also? If you are I can speak little bit also My Mom put an emphasis on learning English. I am learnig thai now and I have My Wife Teaching me also. Throughout my life I felt something was missing, and I didn't feel like I was Thai at all. Maybe because I didn't speak the language But I am learning now Not sure if It will make me more thai I know when i was younger i was made fun of because I looked different Like in the middle Not Thai and Not American Funny thing is When I went back to my high school reunion One of the people that made fun of me I saw him He was standing next to an asian girl I found out later it was his wife. Funny how life is sometimes

Hey Debaryman101 & Khemvika:

You guys are both Thai-American (I believe) but don't speak Thai ? Do you regret not learning when you were kids or are you content to get into Thai language and culture now that you are older?

What makes you interested in Thailand now, are you just exploring your roots, tired of the US or what?

Would be cool to hear from you.
