Two Foreign Workers Die While Cleaning Chicken Manure Tank

 

“June 28, at approximately 16:30 PM, the Sawang Het Thung Hiang Rescue Unit in Bo Thong received a distress call. The incident involved two foreign workers from a chicken farm located in Ban Thung Sala, Moo 3, Wat Suwan Subdistrict, Bo Thong District, Chonburi. Rescue officials rushed to the scene and found two unconscious men, both from Myanmar.

 

Witnesses reported that the two workers lost consciousness while cleaning a chicken manure tank. Rescue personnel administered initial first aid, but both men remained unresponsive. They were urgently transported to Bo Thong Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

 

Upon investigation, authorities discovered a six-wheeled truck equipped with a chicken manure tank that the workers had entered to clean. The probable cause of the incident was inadequate ventilation inside the tank. The workers' supervisor explained that the tank had not been fully emptied of chicken manure due to sand blockage. The combination of gas buildup, cool weather, and rainfall likely resulted in insufficient air circulation, causing the workers to faint. Colleagues found the unconscious men inside the tank and immediately called for help.

 

Preliminary investigations by the Bo Thong Police Station will determine if negligence led to the fatalities. Authorities plan to question all involved parties to ascertain the precise cause of the incident.”

Sad way to die for those desperate to provide a life for themselves/families. RIP. The Thai Health and Safety executive should be investigating with view to criminal charges for the business owners and managers. Is there such a thing as Health and Safety in Thailand?
