Biden - Supreme Court Ruling on Trump Immunity, is a Threat to Rule of Law

President Joe Biden has voiced strong disapproval of a Supreme Court ruling that grants former President Donald Trump partial immunity from criminal prosecution. Biden described the decision as a "dangerous precedent" and stated that it undermines the "rule of law," characterizing it as a "terrible disservice" to Americans.

Earlier, Trump celebrated the court's decision, calling it a "big win" for democracy. The ruling, delivered by the justices on Monday, concluded that a president has immunity for "official acts" but not for "unofficial acts." The case has now been referred back to a trial judge to determine which of Trump's actions were carried out in his capacity as president. This process could take months, making it unlikely that any trial would commence before the November presidential election.

In a televised statement, Biden emphasized the foundational American principle that no one, including the president, is above the law. He expressed concern that the Supreme Court's decision effectively removes constraints on presidential actions. "This nation was founded on the principle that there are no kings in America. Each of us is equal before the law. No one, no one is above the law. Not even the president of the United States," Biden stated. He warned that the decision could delay justice regarding the events of January 6, 2021, when a mob stormed the US Capitol.

Biden's remarks reflect the contentious nature of the ruling, which grants all former presidents partial immunity from criminal prosecution. This immunity applies to acts conducted as part of the president's official duties but excludes actions taken in a private capacity. The Supreme Court's majority opinion ruled that interactions Trump had with the Department of Justice (DoJ) regarding investigations into voter fraud were immune from prosecution.

The decision was not unanimous, with the three liberal justices on the Supreme Court strongly dissenting. Justice Sonia Sotomayor voiced her dissent, stating, "The president is now a king above the law." Democratic Congresswoman Judy Chu also criticized the ruling, suggesting it could have far-reaching implications by potentially shielding improper and criminal actions conducted in an official capacity.

The ruling will significantly delay any trial related to Trump's alleged attempts to subvert the 2020 election results. This delay extends to other criminal prosecutions Trump faces, including cases involving top-secret documents found at his Florida home and accusations of conspiring to overturn his election defeat in Georgia.

In addition, Trump's legal team is attempting to overturn his conviction in New York, where he was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records related to concealing an alleged sexual encounter with former adult-film star Stormy Daniels. Citing the Supreme Court's recent opinion, Trump's lawyers have sent a letter to the judge in this case, although the details of the letter have not yet been made public.

This ruling represents a significant legal development, impacting not only the immediate cases against Trump but also setting a precedent for future presidential conduct and accountability. As the judicial process unfolds, the implications of the Supreme Court's decision will continue to be a point of intense legal and political debate.

You are correct in thinking trump may win, that being said with what he has said and his mental illness the ruling will enable him to really go off the deep end.mark my words he would have protesters shot down in the streets if he thought he could get away with it…….and more……it should concern everyone of any political leaning

Tug is deeply entrenched in the party propaganda... he will never understand anything but his hate for all things opposed to that stance... for instance... he is confused that all the supreme court did was rule that the Legislative branch of the government cannot be weaponized as the democraps have done to usurp the Executive branch of the government in the execution of its duties...   "But Congress may not criminalize the President’s conduct in carrying out the responsibilities of the Executive Branch under the Constitution."

This is no longer the Supreme Court. It is now the Trump Court. "Birds of a feather flock together".

Why? If President Biden orders an attack where there are Americans and some Americans die in it. Then the people should file criminal charges against Biden for ordering the attack that caused American casualties?

Should we charge Biden criminally for opening the borders and allowing unchecked criminal illegal aliens into the country to do serious criminal acts? Biden is to blame for deaths and robberies and any other crime committed by these illegal aliens then and should be prosecuted by proxy if we follow your thinking .

Biden is twisting an unspoken law that has not become spoken into a campaign advertisement. He has always been immune to decisions made during his office that were made in an official act as the President. Nothing has changed. Only now it is clarifying that if he does something in an unofficial act that violates the laws. He can be criminally charged. You should be happy for this. If this was clarified 40 years ago. Several presidents would have been convicted of charges already. I seem to recall at least 2 that could have been in prison off-hand. Carter and Nixon.

The mad King Donald will soon reign over Americans in a way that will make them wish they had never booted out the mad King George Iii.

This court is now a joke. It totally does the bidding of the man who appointed the judges. It is like some third world countries where those in power can get judges they appointed to even rule that a convicted criminal can be a minister, in spite of the constitution apparently saying otherwise.

That’s what you get when you allow the president to appoint judges single-handedly.

Joe is crying like a baby because he can't eliminate the political opposition via the courts.

Given he can barely string a sentence together that was his only chance. Now it's gone. Suck it up Joe, just like you do with your dinner.

He does not need to.. He usually has his teleprompter there in front of him so he can say something confidently.

It's ok for the Democratic Presidents to appoint the judges though? They have appointed 459 while the Republican Presidents 367. I think more then half will be happy when the mad King Biden's handlers are no more. The handlers are ruining the country!

I thought that Mr Trump did not have sex with this Porn Star, and paid her off to avoid any scandal, before he became President. So how does that immunity work?

As I recall, Obiden is part of the Executive branch of the USA government, not the Judicial branch.  He is having a rough go at completing his assignments properly and now he is complaining about another's performance.

The Judicial branch is tasked with applying interpretations of the USA constitution, the Executive branch is not.

Bro, didn't you ever get taught Civics, like in the 3rd grade? Maybe you're not an American?

The president does not appoint judges to the Supreme court, he submits nominees for confirmation by the Senate.  There is nothing "single-handedy" about it. Nice rant! :clap2:

Given this ruling, that if actions were done with intent of part of pres duty, Biden could have Trump and half the court "eliminated". Biden swore to protect and defend the constitution. Trump and Scotus are a direct threat to Constitution. They must "go". What's good for the goose etc

The father of the constitution James Madison once said:

"The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many... may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny."

If Trump wins the election James Madison would turn in his grave.

Not single-handedly, but IMHO a team of right-wing conspirators.

The Federalist Society supposedly funded by dark money nominated their best members to Trump after spending years sponsoring and grooming them.

Trump then gave the nod to the GOP led senate.
