Koh Kwag Hilltop Cafe Destroyed By Fire

Featured Replies

July 17, a fire broke out at a cafe located on the hilltop of Koh Kwag in Ban Koh Kwag, Village No. 3, Nong Thale Subdistrict, Mueang District. The blaze caused extensive damage, with the central part of the café and the kitchen on the lower floor being completely destroyed. The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit due to strong winds and heavy rain in the area. It is believed that a broken branch from the storm hit the power lines, causing sparks that ignited the fire. The café, being constructed mostly of wood, provided ample fuel for the fire. The estimated damage is over 15 million baht.

Mr. Sorasak (last name withheld), a 20-year-old employee, was sleeping in the café with a friend when he woke up to find smoke and flames. They managed to escape without injury. He recounted waking up to use the bathroom and discovering the smoke and fire.

The village head, reported that around 03.00, he was informed by locals about a fire on the hilltop, suspected to be at the café. He alerted the relevant authorities, who then worked to control the blaze. The café is well-known in the area and contributes to local employment and economy.

Mr. Prompriang (last name withheld), the 60-year-old owner of the café, stated that the initial estimate of the damage is over 15 million baht. He plans to discuss with his family the next steps for the business. If they decide to continue, they will prioritise safety measures. He expressed a desire to reopen and serve their customers again in the future.
