Other than Bangkok Bank what bank do you recommend?

Featured Replies

I have only had accounts with BKK bank. Other than waiting 1 week for 12 month account statement I don't have any gripes. I think their app has too many updates with no noticeable change. What other bank should I open an account with and why are good and why?

English phone support, mobile bank app ease of use and ATM functionality are key.

I've been with  Kasikorn over 23 years, back when they were The Thai Farmer's Bank.  Never a problem.  And  you'll get a year's statement of your account there and then if you need it for your visa extension.

Wouldn't even recommend Bangkok Bank anymore, after they deployed that preposterous mandatory face recognition thing.

I think these idiots tested it on a dozen lellow faces aged 25 to 45. While I am a Human male ages 71, dropping eyelids, stiff neck, and no on demand hypocritical smile.

I'll try Kasikorn, maybe.

Don't look at which Bank. Look at how the staff treat you in your area.

I had horrible experiences with Bangkok Bank in Hua Hin but it was lovely in Bangkok.

Same with K Bank in some branches the staff was rude and obviously hated foreigners like in the Hua Hin main Branch, but in Bangkok they were just lovely and efficient.

So the Bank has nothing to do with it. Check out your branch and see how they behave with foreigners as the racism and xenophobia in Thailand against foreigners and expats seems on the rise in the past few years.

Who is “they”? I have not been asked to provide a facial photograph at my branch or the other two branches I frequent.

Mobile banking.

I have my account at SCB.

Seldom go into the branch, do everything by ATM or the mobile app.

No problems.

No problems at all with SCB.  Much better than my UK bank.

Based on your Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn experiences it would appear that where you live might also be a significant factor. In other words Hua Hin is not the place to live if you want to open a new bank account, whereas Bangkok is! 😄

But in the case of the 65k monthly income method for retirement extensions do Kasikorn have a distinctive code to denote the foreign origin of monthly transfers in passbooks as required by IMM (akin to Bangkok Bank's FTT code)?

If the transer arrives from abroad then yes.  Kasikorn use the code "TFN" followed by 5 digits in the range "05027 - 05032"

How about Islamic Bank of Thailand?

The nearest branch location is convenient but don't see many ATMs.
