Waow - Supersonic UAV's, will fly so fast, wonder if can catch any images at all :o. Fly faster than commecial jet liners ( I DONT THINK SO ). I thought UAV's were Max endurance aircraft ( slow speed, many hours in the air )

Suthira said ..............half-scale UAVs ............can fly at a speed of 700 knots and at an altitude of about 2,000 metres.

You've screwed up the link, Skippy.

This link should work:

Eye in the sky (The Nation)

We have a couple types of UAVs operating in the 'stan. They have their uses, and they also have their drawbacks. I think the quoted "700 knots" flying speed (about 804 miles per hour) is quite high, especially as pretty much every UAV I've seen or heard about it propeller driven. Most of them operate at a much lower speed for various reasons.

Also wondering just what exactly they are going to get for their 3-400,000 baht (10-13,000 USD) "half-scale" models. Considering some top line models can cost 5 million or so apiece.

Some of the lower end models will be fairly cheap of course (1 model is listed as weighing 2 lbs, with a 3,000 ft ceiling and a 1 hour endurance). Other models can weigh as much as 2,000 lbs, a ceiling of 60,000 ft (+), and an endurance of almost 48 hours.

I'd lay odds on him meaning 70 knots, a much more usable speed for low level photo / video reconnaissance. Mach 1 at 6000 feet, you're going to see bog-all.

For 10-15 grand US they will be getting a 'model aircraft' type vehicle, albeit with some fairly high-tech sensors nailed on.

Actually these things could be a smart idea for monitoring the activities of the bad guys down south, attach an AK-47 with rubber bands and you have a low-cost UCAV :o

Thailand, the hub of aviation technology!
