Construction work on the western part of the MRT Orange Line in Bangkok is scheduled to start as early as August this year. Bangkok Expressway and Metro Plc (BEM) is leading the project in a joint enterprise with the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) and Ch Karnchang Plc (CK). This venture, extending from Bang Khun Non to Suwinthawong, is projected to cost 143 billion baht.

A six-year construction phase is planned by the company, hoping to complete the stretch from Bang Khun Non to the Thailand Cultural Center by 2030. Their detailed agenda includes design and exploration in the first year, excavation for the next three years, and wrapping up with construction in the final two years.

BEM Chairman, Phongsarit Tantisuvanitchkul, announced that the needed permits to access the construction site are expected to come through this week. He stated that plans are in place for workers, materials and equipment to start moving public utilities on the site once they have the go-ahead.

Additionally, a train signal system is to be established and trains for the Orange Line's east side - that covers from the Thailand Cultural Center to Suwinthawong - are planned to be ready by the end of 2027.

The MRTA also has plans to enhance the visual appeal of the Orange Line by including graphic arts reflecting Thai culture and local histories at some stations. This will include art at the Thailand Cultural Center station symbolizing Thai culture, art at the MRTA station showing the company's history, and art at the Ramkhamhaeng station displaying local life.

That's good, BUT the eastern part of orange line is not finished. It was supposed to be finished a couple of years ago but still not due to covid and due to different allegations. Now they say maybe it will open in 2026. But according to Orange Line website the project has been over 95% ready for more than 18 months now so I don't understand why it  can't be finished before 2026.
