Harris Gains Ground Among Young Voters, Surpassing Trump by 9 Points in New Poll

In a significant shift among the younger electorate, Vice President Kamala Harris has emerged as the favored candidate over former President Donald Trump, leading by 9 points among young voters in a recent survey. This marks a notable shift in a demographic that had previously been a challenge for President Joe Biden before his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race.

The survey, conducted by SocialSphere and commissioned by the Democratic super PAC Won’t Pac Down, reveals that Harris has garnered 51 percent support from registered voters aged 18 to 29 in battleground states. In contrast, Trump secured 42 percent support from this group in a hypothetical two-way race. Notably, 7 percent of respondents were undecided on which candidate they would support. This data highlights a 13-point swing in favor of Harris since the previous iteration of the poll in early July, where Trump had the edge, leading with 48 percent to Harris’s 44 percent.

The findings of this survey were first reported by Politico, providing a snapshot of the evolving political landscape as the 2024 election approaches. The survey also extended its analysis to a five-way race, which included third-party candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, and Jill Stein. Even in this more crowded field, Harris maintained her 9-point lead over Trump, capturing 42 percent of the vote compared to Trump’s 33 percent. The remaining candidates each secured single-digit support from young voters. This data represents a 10-point increase in support for Harris compared to President Biden’s standing last month, when Trump led Biden by 1 point (32 percent to 31 percent) among the same demographic.

The vice president’s approval ratings have also seen a marked improvement. Since July, Harris’s approval rating has climbed 16 points, reaching 49 percent. This puts her 9 points ahead of Trump, who holds a 40 percent approval rating according to the latest poll. This surge in approval is reflective of Harris’s growing popularity and the strengthening of her position since she took over the Democratic presidential ticket following Biden’s exit from the race in late July.

Harris’s rise in the polls has been accompanied by an increased enthusiasm within the Democratic base. Her campaign rallies have drawn substantial crowds, with thousands of supporters attending events last week. This level of engagement is something the Harris campaign has emphasized, particularly in contrast to Trump, who has often touted large crowd sizes as a barometer of his support.

The SocialSphere survey is not an isolated indicator of Harris’s growing momentum. A separate poll by Morning Consult, released the previous week, also showed Harris leading Trump by 9 points among voters under 35 years old and holding a 48 percent to 44 percent advantage overall. The Morning Consult poll further highlighted a contrast with President Biden, who trailed Trump by 9 points among younger voters in the same poll.

The SocialSphere survey was conducted from August 2-5, interviewing 1,313 people aged 18 to 29. The findings are based on a subset of 1,044 registered voters, with the results carrying a margin of error of 3 percentage points. These polls collectively underscore a growing trend of support for Vice President Harris among younger voters, a demographic that could play a pivotal role in the upcoming 2024 election.

As Harris continues to consolidate her position as the Democratic frontrunner, the shift in young voter support may signal broader electoral implications. The vice president’s ability to capture this key demographic could prove decisive as the general election draws nearer, particularly in battleground states where the youth vote often sways outcomes. With a significant lead over Trump in these recent polls, Harris is positioning herself as a formidable contender in the race for the White House.

Everything changes. Things evolve. She has become a far better candidate, Trump has declined cognitively, fatigue is setting in, as people are getting tired of his nonsense and lies, and he has shown he is incapable of adapting to change. And she has picked a VP candidate who people genuinely like. Of all four people on the ticket he is the only one I like. A very smart pick. And she is running thr campaign well.

Alot can happen between now and then, but I see Trump melting down even more and the stress of all this will likely contribute to his further decline.

On one side , we have an old man who dreams of becoming a dictator just like Putin or Kim , who is telling lies whenever he opens his mouth , who chose a VP who is not trustworthy and has reversed his political stance once already . Trump wants MAGA , but most of the americans would be happy being financially well of , having a secured income and less laws they need to obey to ... they do not need to be great again ...

Living under Trump in the US may easily become a nightmare for many .

On the other side , we have Harris and Walz , who offer more realistic perspectives for a sustainable economy and the ability to prepare for a future that depends much on the actions taken now .

Few seem interested in discussing this, but Trump started the current inflationary cycle with his inane Chinese tariffs. So, his economic policies are likely to lead to more disaster for the economy, not less.

Several studies have examined the cost of the Section 301 tariffs on the U.S. economy. For example, economists Mary Amiti, Stephen J. Redding, and David Weinstein showed that by the end of the first year that the tariffs were in place, U.S. real income declined by $1.4 billion per month. More recently, trade analysts Tori Smith and Tom Lee from the American Action Forum found that U.S. consumers largely bore the brunt of the tariffs, paying a total of $48 billion—with half of this figure paid by U.S. firms that rely on intermediate inputs from China. A recent report by the United States International Trade Commission agreed that the cost of the tariffs was passed through to U.S. importers. Back in 2019, President Biden also agreed, stating, “Trump doesn’t get the basics. He thinks his tariffs are paid for by China. Any beginning econ student at Iowa or Iowa State could tell you the American people are paying his tariffs.”

The evidence is clear—the Trump tariffs have failed and the costs on the U.S. economy continue to pile up.

Key policies that undergird so-called Trumponomics — a combination of tariffs, tax cuts and a crackdown on immigration — are likely to cause a flare-up in inflation, according to many Wall Street economists. That would be a painful outcome for consumers and businesses sapped by more than two years of surging prices. More broadly, renewed inflationary pressures would also come.

If consumers "are upset now, they will be hopping mad a year from now" about inflation if Trump wins and enacts his policies, Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody's Analytics and co-author of a June report on the macroeconomic impacts of either a Trump or Biden win in November, told CBS MoneyWatch.

Nooooo.

Never interrupt an enemy when he’s making a mistake.

I encourage Trump’s supporters, foreign and domestic, to stick with Trump if for no other reason than liberals don’t like him.

Stick with Trump guys, you know it upsets us liberals.

You are right, liberals are wrong, stick with Trump…. and Vance.

You get the candidates you want and you wind up liberals into the bargain.

Try not to be so naive. Those are national polls. Clinton won the popular vote so the polls were close. The swing states are much more important. If you happen to be capable enough to find them, you'll see that Harris is up by 4 points there.

And she’s campaigning in the swing states, Trump is campaigning in Montana and other such ‘safe spaces’.

It was obvious that Trump and Biden were both duds.

Now after watching Kamala for a few weeks it is clear that she is also a dud.

You can put lipstick on a pig.

One poll is hardly evidence enough. Fivethirtyeight compiled all the polls, weighted them according to their quality and gave Trump about a 30% chance of winning.  And who did the polls predict was going to win in 2020? It wasn't Trump. Surprise me and don't claim that the 2020  election was stolen.

Even if so, less of a dud than Trump. Although "dud" might not be the best word for someone who explodes many times daily.

Has no one told Trump that the primaries are over and he won his party's nomination? Looks like he's not smart enough to realize his base isn't enough to get him elected and he needs to get new voters. Clearly not going to happen.

I agree she is less of dud.

But she is still a dud.

Trump only won because Hilary was more of a dud.

Biden won because Trump was a dud.

No wonder there is mass shootings daily over there.

Trump wants to make USA great again. The only reason they were “great” in the first place was because of slave labor. That won’t be happening again with all the wokeness these days.

So the USA will just continue the steady decline into being the biggest sh14hole on earth.

It's a two-steps MAGA process:

- first step: claim polls are rigged,

- second step: claim the election has been rigged by massive fraud! 🤣

In my opinion he started to fade in the last year of his presidency. He may have had a minor stroke. Since then, it has been a steady downhill path. Far less coherent than in the past, very hard for him to continue a sentence for more than 15 seconds, alot of rambling, complaining, playing the victim card, and juvenile name calling as usual. Even most of the CEO's he met with a month ago were shocked at how lacking his message was.

He is in the beginning stages of severe cognitive decline and it's a horrific thing to watch, he's an increasingly dangerous man and having him as the oldest elected president in history would not be a good thing. He rambles on and on, and it is easy to discern that he has a very hard time maintaining a thought for more than 15 seconds. He is, and has always been the master of slogans, and memes, but the public is just getting tired of the same game, day in and day out. He does not possess the creative juice to adapt, and that is absolutely killing his campaign, at this point. He is headed for the greatest humiliation of his lifetime.

He was rushed into the Walter Reid Memorial Hospital to be administered the Montreal Cognitive Assessment Test.

The reason why this was deemed necessary has never been explained.
