On the 17 August, at 03:55 the Phayathai Fire and Rescue Station received a call regarding a car fire at the 10-story parking building of Phra Mongkutklao Hospital on Ratchawithi Road, Thung Phaya Thai, Ratchathewi District.

Emergency crews on arrival found the first car well ablaze, with the fire having spread to a second car. The affected parking level and the ones above it, were starting to fill with dense black smoke, but the car park was not very busy with only a few cars parked there at that time of morning.

Responders worked to extinguish the flames, using the car parks’ own fire main system, to supply the water hose-lines to confine the fire from spreading any further.

After 30 minutes the fire was successfully extinguished, with two cars having been badly damaged by fire and two other cars damaged by heat and flame. Thankfully there were no reported injuries and the lack of parked cars may have helped prevent, what could have been a possibly larger more serious incident.

The fire is currently under investigation as officials work to determine the cause of the fire, and the type of vehicle involved.
