Aussie Savings Account Interest
I have accounts with Great Southern Bank (old Credit Union Australia) and I've just noticed something bizarre. Instead of increasing interest on existing accounts they've introduced new accounts which are identical in every way except interest rate. Flexi Saver at 4.2% is identical to new Daily Saver with 4.3% Advantage Saver at 4.85% up to $100k and 4.70% over $100k, is identical to new Future Saver with 4.85% up to $500k So while new customers get the better rate, it's likely many current account holders don't know they can get a better rate at same bank (I have no idea when they introduced the new accounts). I'm wondering if/when other banks will be doing this -

Any advantages to retirement over marriage visa?
Witnessed the problem many times. Foreigners attends with wife who sits at the front speaking Thai to the IO, whilst he sits behind with not a clue of what's going on or required. It's left to the wife, she's Thai, she'll know! Granted. That and living 100Km from your IO I can fully appreciate. Supplied many with a list of required docs. Less intrusive than a tradesman visiting to carry out a repair. Mind you, they don't have to be present when a labourer calls. Very few IO's make annual home visits, compared to the 82 IO's. Agreed, and his decision could be based on which Immigration he'll use, which he hasn't mentioned. -

Statins: A Vital Consideration for Those Over 70, Study Suggests
Anecdotes are of course interesting, I knew a First Cat Road Racer who died in his sleep at age 25, his team members ate all still fit and healthy decades later. However, there has been a significant development in past 20 years that is without doubt going to produce valuable insights into exercise and health. Almost every person I know who is regularly taking part in sports, is using ‘wearables’ and uploading their data to online databases, STRAVA, Garmin, Polar, TrainingPeaks etc. This is true of tens of millions of people around the world. Its a goldmine for medical research and will undoubtedly reveal valuable nights as the cohort of users age.- 1

GOP Urges Trump to Accept Second Debate with Harris
I sometimes have to marvel at the assumption everybody knows a certain academic. I have never heard of Hanson. Looked him up on Google. Just like you have probably never heard of Geoffrey Blainey or Donald Horne. The insularity and ignorance of Americans can be quite alarming. I've read books by John Steinbeck, Sinclair Lewis, Ernest Hemingway, Booth Tarkington, John D MacDonald. Some Americans don't even know who J.D. MacDonald is, and he is one of your greatest authors. -

Foreign pickup driver flees after crashing into Thai woman in Phuket
The pick-up must be registered to somebody. The chassis and engine numbers must be on file. Maybe the police are trying to contact other runners, and locate were they run to? 😉 -

World’s best hotel: Bangkok’s Mandarin Oriental steals the show
It's a very good hotel, but not even the best in Bangkok, never mind 'the world'. Rooms are small and outdated, and while the international food is excellent, the Thai food is so Westernized it's almost tasteless. It's also over-priced, so I only visit when a business guest really wants to go there. Anantara Riverside is better in my view, and the Shangri-la is it's equal. Looking wider, there are some hotels in Dubai and Oman I've visited on business (wouldn't pay to stay there if not on expenses 🙂) that are better, and even within the Mandarin Oriental's own group the one in KL is better. But I guess it's all subjective anyway? -
