I want to bring in about 50 ounces of silver back to thailand that have been sitting around in my home country. Are there any reasons why I would have a problem with this? Would I need to declare it at customs in Chiang mai?

You will not have any problem with it. The value will be under 50k baht, and you are allowed to bring in products for a value up to 80k baht.

I would declare it though, as that looks better than to not.
