Trump Harris: Who won the debate ?
Given that few tweens or teens constitute her huge fanbase, would you expect it to be different? What exactly is your point? -

Thailand's 5-20 Year Visa Now a Bit Cheaper
Hopefully, it was during the application. He didn't pay the entire fee. Great that they gonna refund him the 50k THB fee. It's a blessing in a disguise. He can just apply for the DTV, it's way way way cheaper for a 5 year visa. Only thing he has to do is to get out of the country every 6 month. My friend just asked his agent. He got accepted because his overstay was less than 7 days. Any overstay above 7 days is detrimental to your application. They submit application all the time with 1-2 days overstay without issues. -

90-day report without physical passport book
Hate to state the obvious, but you should have made sure you 90 day was accepted before sending off your passport. That is exactly what I did. Cleared my 90 report, got my receipt, and then mailed out the passport that week. As mentioned above, try to mail it in, and if that doesn't work, then you just learned a 2000 THB lesson - you won't do that again. Fyi - once you get your passport back, you'll need to do your first 90 day in person if your passport number changes like they do in US passports, ie, the new passport number isn't in the system. -

Head of Reclining Buddha Collapses Less Than a Day After Consecration
Picture of the damaged before it was covered over. Residents are concerned about potential superstitions after the head of a large reclining Buddha statue at Wat Phra That Doi Saket unexpectedly broke off just a day after the statue’s opening ceremony. The temple swiftly covered the area with green tarpaulin while workers began repairs. Heavy rains in the Chiang Mai region are believed to have caused the damage, with the head collapsing due to the cement being unable to bear the weight. Initial inspections revealed that the head had fallen from the newly completed Buddha statue, which was constructed between 2020 and mid-2024, measuring 59.99 metres in length. The incident occurred early in the morning on 13 September 2024, just 24 hours after the Buddha’s opening ceremony held on 12 September. The ceremony, which marked the statue's official completion, was attended by numerous devotees and notable figures. Fortunately, the accident took place early morning, preventing any injuries. Monks at the temple have asked reporters not to take photos and explained that the collapse was due to a construction error rather than any supernatural cause. They emphasised that publicising the event might cause unnecessary panic among the local community, which is already rife with speculation about the incident. Some locals believe the collapse was due to structural issues, suggesting that the supporting materials used were inadequate to sustain the statue’s weight. Others speculate that it could be a bad omen, imagining the potential danger if the collapse had occurred during the ceremony with thousands in attendance. Despite these concerns, the temple has not yet issued any official statement regarding the incident. The contractor responsible for the statue has been tasked with urgently restoring the damaged structure to ease the worries of the local Buddhist community. -- 2024-09-15 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe -

Is it worth having one short sighted eye corrected?
Soon. Presbyopia usually starts end forties, many people won't notice anything until about your age (and then it usually still takes several years until they admit they need reading glasses). -

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2024)
Many thanks for the list above as I watched Harrison's Flowers last night and thought it was very good, so more will be on my list to watch over the coming nights. Watching the film bought back the horrors of the "Bosnian war" and how at the time I thought that Bosnians and Serbs were animals because of their cruelty. Upon reflection, I shouldn't have thought like that because that has been a feature of many wars since time immemorial, and I remember just a few days ago commenting on the "Sand Creek Massacre" where old women and children were butchered and mutilated. Then of course there were the Nazi concentration camps where millions of Jews were murdered, then the Mai Lai massacre in Vietnam, onto the rape of Nanking and many more .........all horrendous and just goes to prove that " man's cruelty to man" knows no boundaries, sad as it is. -

Electric Vehicles in Thailand
Who the hell needs 1000 kms range on any vehicle. Very few ICEVs can manage that, unless having an auxiliary fuel tank. On Thai roads, IF you could average 80 kph, that would be 12+ hours. After 3hrs, I'm ready for a stop, stretch, P & a munch. As is the dog & wife, and we don't even have kids, wanting to stop every hour. TBH, lucky to make 3 hrs without the wife or dog wanting to stop. So simply top up while there. No different than having an ICEV. Well, I'll tell you .... I'm never buying another car, until they come with a chauffer, catered w/full bar. -

Electric Vehicles in Thailand
Gman, nice to see you again. I do acknowledge that EV are selling like hot cakes in Thailand and that the Thai charcking infrastructure is more than adequate, actually it is world class and very impressive. My interest is where will it end, when the dust settled. The Chinese EV manufacturers are whining like babies while at the same time they are dumping prices out of desperation to sell their vehicles. Something will eventually break. I am all for honest and factual information and data. Cherry 🍒 picking and propaganda, not so much. This is Central World today, you want to join and kick some tires? -

Smart Home automations - anybody using?
I love the idea of a smart home. I was starting a project with Sonoff gear in Texas just before I got called back to China on my GF's health issues. So don't take this question as dissing smart homes. I love the concept. Have you noticed anything hinky, as if Google is listening to you and steering you toward advertisements, etc? I see YouTubes where people will talk at home about (for example) kayaks, and the next time they get on their smartphone or PC, they get inundated with kayak ads. Has that happened to you? On the next level, is anyone monitoring their power with the current transformers (CTs) on each leg in the breaker box? I'm wondering if there's any "bestest" system for that? -

Do you want President Harris to pardon Trump?
It has nothing to do with whether he is a former president or not. If you can't do the time don't do the crime. -

Early Release Scheme Hits Hurdles as Several Returned to Prison
He didn't even look for alternatives. He immediately settled on the easiest option because he is a moron. Jailing people for posting mean words on facebook is wrong on every possible level, even more so when real criminals have to be released early as there isn't enough space. Anyone who has an IQ in double figures would recognise that. -

Thailand's 5-20 Year Visa Now a Bit Cheaper
17% is fair. Above 25% start being outrageous. They have so many ways to make Thailand attractive with tax alone. Somehow, they make things super complicated.
