A tragic incident occurred at Kham Somboon Beach in Bueng Khong Long District, Bueng Kan Province, where a 5-year-old child drowned while on a family outing.

At approximately 14:35, on September 1, the Sawang Sriwilai Rescue Unit in Bueng Khong Long received a report of a drowning incident involving a young child. Upon arriving at the scene, rescuers found local good Samaritans performing CPR on the child while awaiting the arrival of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) from Bueng Khong Long Hospital. The CPR had been going on for around 20 minutes, before the child was then rushed to Bueng Khong Long Hospital, with further resuscitation efforts by medical professionals continuing in the ambulance.

Initial inquiries revealed that the child, who was visiting from Phon Charoen District with relatives, had been missing from their guardians' sight for approximately 30 minutes before being discovered in the water.

Despite the swift response actions and rescue, plus the efforts to revive the child, the young victim was later sadly pronounced dead at the hospital.

Local authorities are investigating the incident.

RIP to the poor child.

Another amazing story. If a 5 year old goes missing for 2 minutes, then it´s time to check. They waited 30 minutes! It´s not an accident. It´s murder, and they should be prosecuted for killing the child.

You don't know what happened.

Let them go.

They have nothing better to do.

They love being outraged.

Drowning is the leading cause of death among Thai children under 15 years old. Every year, 1,500 people drown in Thailand.

You don´t lose a 5 year old for 30 minutes.

Reading the report the title is misleading, the child wasn't rescued, but pulled from the water already drowned.

As a parent I don't let kids out of my sight near water even if they can swim. This is gross negligence.

If you ever almost drown, have gotten water in your lungs, but get pulled out in time and make it, go to the hospital immediately, regardless of whether you're feeling fine, because there is a thing called secondary drowning that can happen days later. The insides of your lungs are covered with a film that keeps your lungs from sticking together. If water gets in your lungs, that film can get washed off and cause your lungs to stick together and in that case you'll suffocate.

Agreed....      A child 'slip supervision'... they often do, it only takes a second.

But, to be 'out of sight for 30 mins ???....     OK.. so that also perhaps means they found the child after 30mins of looking - but under normal supervison, how far can a child get if they 'slip supervision' for a minute or two...

... Sure, they can get themselves into harmful situations, out into the driveway, out of a door into the garden etc...     But to have 'gone far enough that they couldn't be found for 30 mins' implies the child was 'unsupervised' for a much longer than a minute or two...

Easily done in big gatherings - people always assume someone else is watching the kids...

Such a tragic sitation...  Thailand repeatedly fails in the most basic of safety education for its citizens.

Key missing areas:

- Road Safety

- Water Safety

- Electrical Safety

---------------

I don't wish to compare, however, I'm going to...

My Son, at a similar age was invited to at a pool party (at a classmates condo)... I was overseas and thought perhaps it was a not the best idea, as when the 'parents' get chatting they may all think someone else is doing the watching, a child can drown in less than a minute...   I discussed with Wife and she agreed, if our son goes in the water with the other kids, she wont take her eye off him; even if needing the toilet, he goes with her - as trusting other parents is not an option IMO, they only focus on their kids - and I also saw plenty of parents who's safety clearly was not a concern as they didn't have car seats etc.

--------------

In Thailand, the leading cause of death in children under 15 in Thailand is drowning.

15 and up ?...  motorcycle accidents (non-helmet wearing ?????)
