Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit gave his assurance today that the three road projects, currently under construction on the Rama 2 Road (Highway 35), will be completed and opened to traffic in the middle of next year.

The Rama 3-Dao Khanong western ring road project, which is the responsibility of the Expressway Authority of Thailand, is now 80.92% complete and is expected to open to traffic in June next year, while the bridge running parallel to the Rama 9 bridge is due to open at the end of this year, according to the minister.

The second project, which is an 8.3km elevated road between Bang Khun Thian and Ekachai, is the responsibility of the Highways Department. Construction is expected to be completed in November and it will be opened for a trial run between two toll plazas, Panthai Norasing and Mahachai, at the end of the year.

With the seasonal rains and inevitable flooding over the next couple of months any work progress will be slower than it is now. Has the Minister actually visited and inspected the state of construction? Perhaps he's making this promise knowing that the current government will be replaced at the next election.*
