TEFL in Bangkok?

proton

Recommended Posts

Mrs has no work these days teaching Thai so has started teaching Englsih. Any recommendations for a reasonably priced TEFL course in Bangkok, she has a degree in education but this would probably be an advantage for her.

Better to do a CELTA than TEFL - more prestigious.

(CELTA requires the student to have a good grasp of English grammar before starting the course, whilst TEFL doesn't.  A large part of the TEFL training is therefore teaching English grammar, rather than focusing on how to teach effectively.  Very little grammar is taught in English schools, but a Thai learning English will have been thoroughly drilled in English grammar.)

Thanks, i am against the over teaching of grammar, that's what puts kids off and it's boring. I will pass this on

May have changed but when I did mine there was NO grammar involved at all it was all conversational English and stayed right away from technical structure etc.

Are you referring to CELTA or TEFL?

https://www.tefl.org/ would disagree with you.

Thanks. I wasn't familiar with them before.
But reading their site seems to confirm what I said - TEFL is the field of Teaching English as a Foreign Language.  It's not proprietary to that organization.  They offer a variety of TEFL qualifications, some of which include TEFL in the title, just as other providers of TEFL courses and qualifications do.
Are you saying that a CELTA is not a TEFL qualification?
