Its Happening - Law to Tax Overseas Income Now in Progress
Exactly that. I played the <180 day rule across many countries for almost eight years, my work was such that I was required to be in lots of different places and as a result, I never spent 180 days anywhere. I kept a spreadsheet which I still have, it shows where I was at midnight on every day of the year for eight years. Around year 5 I think, my accountant called me to say that HMRC wanted me to demonstrate my whereabouts for a particular tax year so I sent him the spreadsheet. He was impressed, I guess HMRC was also because I never heard anything more about the matter.- 1

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part II
There is a missunderstanding. The OP was referring to being placed in the highest tax bracket as being paranoid or at least that is the way I understood it. Highly unlikely that the will deduct tax from all remittances. However it is very possible that if you do not provide evidence TRD could simply assume at the tax declaration all your remittances are taxable until you prove they are not. -

Economic Vitality..
Chiang Mai is having it rough. Far fewer tourists than projected. Before the floods was the city solvent? The construction projects.. Especially the underground cable project is taking a long time.. Is it a cash flow issue? The city is probably adding up the cost of the floods right now. The damage is staggering to city property. I wonder how many businesses will be closed.. For 3 months or forever? Thai people are just getting back on their feet from covid debacle and now this. I see LOTS of empty shops in the city.. Far more homeless sleeping in the city and the graffiti has skyrocketed I'm guessing Chiang Mai is going to get worse economically speaking? Thoughts? -

I think like most countries tax the onus is on you to count the days and report to them. In theory systems should automatically flag up people they think haven't paid and if anything they want to trip you up to charge fines and high interest.- 1

Car recommendations
I bought second hand here once and regretted it, but that was 25+ years ago before you could get certified used cars, you could only buy from unscrupulous tents. Since then I have always bought new but that's because I planned on keeping each one for maybe 7 years. If I only thought I would be here for a couple of years I would definitely buy a certified second hand dealer car. But that's just my personal opinion, it doesn't make it right - I just don't see the point of buying new and selling it again after two years. -

Sending food back to the kitchen?
No, I do not send food back, or, in this case, take it back. My go to western comfort food is a Reuben. One of the few places in town that make it turned out this for a take away order between last Xmas & New Years. Two pieces of toasted rye cut in half, no butter, no cheese or sauerkraut or TI dressing - nothing - just bread & partially burnt pastrami. Looked like it had been stir fried in a skillet. That was it. They had also upped their price a hundred baht to 375B. I have had decent Reubens there in the past and it wasn't the price. I was back home before I opened it up. Eff me I cannot recall an order this bad of Thai or western food. All I did, could do, was put it on the verboten list. Maybe a new cook, and they have decent baked goods, but never again. They lost more than one customer. A couple friends & I meet for coffee & breakfast at different places once a week. Used to have this place on the rotation; coffee & huevos rancheros. Which was good, BTW, but ... nevermore. Defamation laws prevent me from naming the restaurant. -

Sending food back to the kitchen?
Has anyone here ever heard about.....Loss of Face...in Asia? Sending food back to the chef....would....definitely be... Construed by all at the restaurant as Loss of Face for the chef. Why would you ever DO that???? Boggles the mind. Just feign an upset stomach, ...pay....., and then leave. No need for you to ever return to the same restaurant. ========= Or, what about eating at a noodle shop? And then.... You complain: My Noodle is too soft. Would you not then be the laughing stock of the entire noodle shop? Or... Dear Chef, My noodle is not LONG enough. Please take it back! Ridiculous, really. Never seen, in all my born days, anyone in Asia return food to the chef. Someday, maybe.... I will live to see the day.... -

Its Happening - Law to Tax Overseas Income Now in Progress
Thanks. There have however been reports with the opposite message. It seems to depend on who one speaks to at which office.Perhaps there will be a clear ruling which will settle the matter once and for all. Don't forget there are millions of Thais with no assessable income who never file tax returns (as well as many Thais who never file but do have assessable income!!) There are no special requirements for foreigners as far as I know.
