Trump Vows to Make Overtime Pay Tax-Free: ‘Finally Catch a Break’

Former President Donald Trump made a significant campaign promise on Thursday, announcing his plan to eliminate taxes on overtime pay if re-elected to the White House. Speaking at a rally in Tucson, Arizona, a crucial battleground state for the 2024 election, Trump declared, “As part of our additional tax cuts, we will end all taxes on overtime.”

Trump argued that this policy would provide workers with more motivation to take on extra hours, making it easier for businesses to attract and retain employees. “You’ll get a whole new workforce by doing the no taxes on overtime,” he said. He further elaborated on his plan, emphasizing that overtime hours worked beyond the standard 40-hour workweek would be entirely tax-free. “If you are an overtime worker, when you’re past 40 hours a week, think of that, your overtime hours will be tax free,” Trump said, drawing loud applause from the crowd.

The former president, now 78, highlighted that those who work overtime, such as police officers, nurses, factory workers, construction workers, truck drivers, and machine operators, represent some of the country’s hardest-working citizens. Trump criticized Washington politicians for neglecting these workers, stating, “For too long, no one in Washington has been looking out for them.” He added that his proposal would help these individuals “finally catch a break.”

Trump expressed that his proposal has the potential to boost the economy, claiming that economists have assured him the plan would “bring money into our economy.” He linked this new tax policy to his broader agenda of supporting the American workforce, including previous proposals to eliminate taxes on tipped wages and remove the taxes that seniors pay on their Social Security benefits.

Trump painted his tax policies as a path to prosperity, contrasting his vision with what he referred to as the “era of inflation, mayhem and misery under the Kamala [Harris] and Crooked Joe [Biden] regime.” He promised that by maintaining his 2017 tax cuts and implementing his new policies, he would deliver “safety, prosperity and peace for Americans of every race, religion, color and creed.”

The former president also addressed other aspects of his economic agenda during the rally. He announced plans to prevent illegal migrants from accessing home mortgages and renting in federally subsidized apartments. “When I return to the White House, we will require all companies receiving federal housing subsidies to verify citizenship,” Trump declared, insisting that only legal residents should benefit from these programs. “We will not permit illegals to drive up the cost for Americans.”

In a recent speech at the Economic Club of New York, Trump had already hinted at his proposed ban on home loans for illegal migrants, stating, “We can’t have it” regarding banks providing mortgages to non-citizens. He also pledged to take executive action to “terminate every single unnecessary rule driving up the cost of housing,” aiming to reduce the cost of building a new home by 30% to 50%. Highlighting his background in construction, Trump concluded, “I have been a builder my entire life. I understand the problem, and I will fix it.”

Trump’s promises reflect his ongoing campaign focus on economic reforms designed to appeal to working-class voters, as he seeks to make his case for a return to the White House in 2024.

45 could have done this his first go around. With his absolute propensity to lie every time he takes a breath, what makes you think he'll do it THIS time?

  • Heck instead of this why doesn’t he just pay his taxes?I was paying more tax weekly than he was paying yearly more noise out of his blow hole.nothing but a pandering gesture.

  • Sounds good to me. Go Trump

I’ve not once missed paying income taxes since I started work - not once.

I like the idea.

But i don't know if execution is feasible, plus i fear for companies hiring less and relying more on overtime.

Living wages for 40hrs work is a better idea.

Wasn’t an issue at the time.  Now he’s making it an issue.  He’ll get it accomplished when elected.

But yet all the false promises Harris made during her debate for some reason couldn’t be accomplished during her VP.
What makes you think she’ll accomplish anything if elected?

Her tenure as “Border Czar “ was worthless. One trip and never left the tarmac.  But then she’s “Never been to Europe “ either as she stated in a incoherent interview.

Check out the videos of what the people who live on the southern border think of her and her job as “Border Czar”.  It ain’t pretty.

Tomorrow's headline....

Trump promises everyone a digital wallet and 10,000 Baht.

  • Popular Post

Sounds good, but where are the costing. Does he plan to replace the lost tax revenue and how? Hopefully not by cutting welfare services, though wouldn't be surprised.

Doesn't make sense for the employer at time and a half, whether there's income tax or not.

Exempting income taxes on overtime can't benefit fat cats, all of whom are exempt. It's a good political move.

By cutting government bloat, most of the taxes are squandered by useless worthless government spending and unnecessary employment.

It’s a concept of a plan, details aren’t necessary, they only confuse his rubes.
