Navy Petty Officer Dies in Car Crash Near Pattaya

A Sattahip based Navy Petty Officer, Phatthawan Suwann, lost his life in a car crash, during the morning of September 25. The incident took place at kilometre marker 10 on Route 331 in the Huai Yai subdistrict of Bang Lamung district.

According to initial reports, the officer was driving a red Suzuki Ciaz sedan, registered in Bangkok, at high speed when his vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a tree in the central ditch.

Emergency response teams arrived to find the vehicle overturned approximately 50 metres from the point of impact. Tragically, Petty Officer Phatthawan was pinned beneath the car and had succumbed to his injuries.

Local police, led by Deputy Inspector Nevin Suntuawanich of the Huai Yai Police Station, are investigating the accident. CCTV footage captured the moment the car lost control, showing the vehicle speeding before veering off course and hitting the tree. Preliminary investigations suggest the driver may have fallen asleep or lost control of the car due to the high speed.

 

 

Rescue teams from Sawang Boriboon Pattaya Foundation were on-site to assist, and the officer’s body has been taken to Bang Lamung Hospital for an autopsy. Family members will be notified to arrange the funeral.

 

Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the crash while awaiting autopsy results and further evidence from the scene.

Most likely, that'sthe normal state of a Thai when they're travelling, boat, airplane, bus, car , just sitting down etc, they simply fall aslep within 10 minutes. They must have a medical condition unknown to us.

There is no rain or wet road. No other traffic. Whether speed was excessive is hard to say from the video.

So likely fell asleep (micro sleep).

It also captures the million times road users break the law endangering themselves and others every day.  Footage is ONLY consulted post-mortem! 

Speed kills and should be the easiest sin to eradicate given the battery of cameras at the BIB's disposal.
