Israel Bans U.N. Chief António Guterres Amid Escalating Tensions

Israel has officially declared United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres "undesirable" and banned him from entering the country. This significant move was announced by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz on social media, marking a major escalation in the ongoing tensions between Israel and the U.N.

Katz explained that the decision came after Guterres failed to "unequivocally condemn Iran's criminal attack on Israel" earlier in the week. While Guterres issued a general statement condemning the growing conflict in the Middle East and called for a ceasefire, he did not directly mention Iran's missile attacks on Israel. For this reason, Katz stated that Guterres “does not deserve to set foot on Israel’s soil.”

This move adds another layer of tension to the already strained relationship between Israel and Guterres. The friction deepened significantly after Guterres' remarks concerning Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel. He had commented that the assault "did not happen in a vacuum," a statement that infuriated Israeli officials. Additionally, Guterres has repeatedly condemned Israeli military actions in Gaza, particularly regarding civilian deaths, further exacerbating the rift.

Katz emphasized that Israel would continue to defend its citizens and uphold its national dignity, regardless of Guterres’ stance. “Israel will continue to protect its citizens and maintain its position and national honor with or without António Guterres,” Katz declared.

At the time of the announcement, Guterres’ spokesperson declined to comment on the situation, offering no immediate response. The development signals a new low in the diplomatic relations between Israel and the U.N., highlighting the deepening divide over the Middle East conflict.

40 years ago the UN was described in an episode of "Yes, Prime Minister" thus:

“The UN is the accepted forum for the expression of international hatred.”

Nothing changes it seems.

Typical israeli response to people that don't agree with them. Can't justify what they do, so cancel the opposition.

If Isralies waited for UN approval  they would be overun by Hammas and Iran.

Good luck to them on their  fightback against muslum terrorists.

Sad to see both countries doing this and pulling the rest of the world into it.

A well planned, strategic, targeted military operation.

Every war has civilian casualties. It's unavoidable.

A targeted military mission like this keeps them to a minimum. Although perhaps Hamas should have thought about this before the October 7 attacks?

Nothing to do with Hamas, and Hezbollah didn't take part in October 7.

That's a very basic error.

Everything to do with Hamas, they joined Hamas in their war on Israel. Hezbollah was planning its own Oct 7th against Israel and in the meantime fired over 8000 missiles into Israel starting from Oct 8th. The terrorists are now getting their just rewards fella. There's your basic error..........

Thaibeachlovers - How would you wage war with barbaric militants who place weapons and infrastructure in civilian areas and surround themselves with family? Who does that sort of thing - is it acceptable for "resistance fighters"? They are brainwashed Jihadists who create chaos across the Moslem world - wake up!

Iran and it's proxies, including complicit UNRWA these days, need to be brought to heal. Check out how many people are killed each year by these mongrels, mostly other Moslems https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_major_terrorist_incidents

Scourge of the Earth and Israel is right to ban that moron from the UN, who as a world socialist has been of the same mind as Jeremy Corbyn with his clear anti-Semitism.

Killed those two child terrorist ...  along with killing and injuring 100s & 1000s of innocent bystanders.   Well done 👍

... "At least 32 people, including two children, were killed and thousands more injured, many seriously, after communication devices, some used by the armed group Hezbollah, dramatically exploded across Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In the latest round of blasts on Wednesday, exploding walkie-talkies killed 20 and injured at least 450 people, according to Lebanon's health ministry.

The explosions occurred in the vicinity of a large crowd that had gathered for the funerals of four victims of Tuesday's simultaneous pager blasts, which killed at least 12 people and injured nearly 3,000."

Why are you also ignoring the targeted strikes by Hezbollah that murdered 12 children and young people in Israel at a football pitch at Golan Heights?

Guess you must have beaten by a Jew at something when you were a kid and never got over it.

Pls clarify how you see Hamas and Hezbollah as the victims. How do you reconcile Hezbollah's presence in Lebanon and the harm they has caused that society over decades. Same for Hamas in Gaza. Much like Taliban in Afghanistan and ISIS in Africa etc etc.

How can't you see what militant Islamists believe in and terrorise for?

Btw I lived in Nigeria and Indonesia for a number of years. I have no problem with moderate Islam but the extremists are ruining lives for moderates and causing angst for non-Moslems around the world.

Whatever. Israel has been building so much hatred from so many people with their indiscriminate killing of women and children that IMO no israeli will ever feel safe in israel, as long as a Muslim lives on planet Earth.

You haven't explained why you think it is acceptable for Hamas to use civilians as human shields - they are responsible for most of the civilian casualties, but they don't care.

"Indiscriminate killing" that's rubbish - that's what terrorists do and they are still trying to do it. Israel sent Gazan civilians messages throughout on how to avoid harm and now do the same in Lebanon. They warned Hezbollah to stop firing missiles across the border, which the UN is meant to police.

That Jewish kid must have got under your skin real bad chum.

Israel has Muslims fighting for the IDF, over 18% of Israel's population consists of Muslims. You really have zero clue about this do you.
