what is required for a re entry permit these days. It will be the first time I've left in years.

Nothing if you choose to get it at the airport. Go to the re-entry permit desk (after security but before immigration at Suvaranabhumi). Pay 200 baht, write down your address and tell them the date you want to come back. They fill out the form, they take your pictures, and if it is not crowded (never has been when I've done it) then ten minutes later you have your re-entry permit and then you proceed to the immigration line as usual.

You can save the 200 baht if you print out the form (TM8) and fill it out before you go, along with getting photos done somewhere and taking them with you. But for me it is 200 baht very well spent.

Whether you pay the 200 baht or not the fee is 1,000 for single entry, 3,800 baht for multi entry.

You can also do this at your local immigration office but it is so easy and quick to do it at the airport I can't imagine why you'd bother.

Agree. Airport is breeze.

Just to add at DMK the reentry permit office is just past passport control.

Going to Laos overland. Did my 90 day at Pattaya as it was due a little before the trip. Then did the re entry permit. 1 photo required photo copies of visa ext page, photo page and 1000bht. Waited half an hour and good to go.

Hardy can understand some of your posts.

A single reentry permit is 1000b

A multi reentry permit is 3800b

You require a TM8 with photo and basic copies of pp.

If you obtain at Bangkok airports you can pay 200b service fee and just provide passport only.

If on retirement extensions and you leave the country with a re entry permit, on return, do you start again from return date till another 90 days before doing next 90 report?

Yes. The 90 day clock gets reset each time you re-enter the country.

There's a painfully meticulous document about Re-entry on Immigration's Public Guide page:

https://bangkok.immigration.go.th/en/onlineservice-and-publicguide/

The estimated processing times are hilarious.

Reads to me like some training guide for new officers at CW (assuming, of course, that they are fluent in English which is by no means a given in my experience of immigration officers generally)!

I think a twist in context?
