As a senior poster you are not pulling my leg. Of course they are. Tell us where you would apply for your visa, inside Thailand or abroad.

In general you need application form, passport copies, copies of your wife's ID card, marriage licence and and especially proof of THB 40k monthly income.

I tried to find the app. forms etc. at the Hull Thai Consulate website, but couldn't find what I needed, hence the enquiry.

I have a WP that I want to chuck and replace it with a marriage visa, therefore I'd very much prefer to apply inside Thailand.

I understand that apart from evidence of a 40k income per month, the sum of 400k is required to be deposited in a Thai bank? Does it have to be a joint account?

You do not need 400,000 in a Thai bank, Income of 40,000 Baht a month has to be proved either by your wifes tax payments or a letter from your embassy or a combination of both.

Some time ago i asked the same or slightly different question(my being the account was in her name).

just go back to the Sunbelt link, read through it once again and you'll find your answer there(like i did) :o

You don't need either to get the first visa, you need to prove the income to get the annual extension...... that's the case in Hull anyway.

Proof of THB 40k monthly income, going back how long? 3,6,12 months or longer?

A visa does not require proof of income. The 40k family income is used for extensions of stay from Immigration. That requires at least a 3 month tax record from most reports (but conditions have varied).

One q. If legally married to a Thai does one have to apply for a marriage visa?

From what I can see there are no benefits whatsoever to having one compared to a standard non-I O.

thx

rych

You don't have to do anything (but perhaps obey the wife). :o

The extension of stay allows you to live in Thailand without visa/border runs and provides the required continuous stay required to apply for permanent residence. It also allows you to obtain a work permit and not be tied to work for extension of stay.

Income of 40,000 pm. Is this figure gross or net?
