Tourist Visa: Is This Info Correct?

Featured Replies

Hello,

This is the gist of what I've read/heard about the 60 day tourist visa, but of course some sources are "less than reliable" :o so I consider checking it here first to be finding out the easy way, before I actually get myself one.

Good for 60 days.

Can be extended for 30 days at immigration offices, 1900B

60 days do not start until you actually enter Thailand

If you leave Thailand before your 60 (or 90) days are up the visa becomes null and void

You can buy single, double, and triple entry visas, each for 60 days, but they cannot be extended for the additional 30, once you leave the country the next visa immediately comes into effect.

Sound about right?

Thanks!

All correct apart from the last sentence..

Each entry can be extended 30 days.

A re-entry permit can be used to keep the current permitted to stay alive for short trip if wanted.

Hi,

Okay now I am a bit confused. I am in America, planning to leave on Sept 6th for Thailand. By what this says, then I can mail off for my tourist visa now, and it would not go into effect untill i land in LOS? The last visa I had was a multiple O, that went into effect the moment they stamped it here in the states. Also, is it possible to receive the 30 extention early? I hate planning all my travel around my visa stamp. Can I pay the 1900bt and get the extention a week or two before i need it...and still get a total of 90days out of the visa stamp? Thank you so much for all your help...

Sunshine...

Sunshine4you, when you enter Thailand with a tourist visa you receive permission to stay for stay for 60 days and you can apply for an extension of stay for 30 days.

Yes you can apply early for your extension of stay. Best not to wait until the last day. The 30 days are added onto the original 60 days. You lose nothing by applying early.

....and all entries must be used within the validity of the visa which is usually 6 months from the date of issue (not date of first entry)

....and all entries must be used within the validity of the visa which is usually 6 months from the date of issue (not date of first entry)

VERY important point. If you have a triple entry you may not be able to use all of the extension of your second entry before activating the final entry, watch your dates.

Don't apply for the visa too early as the 'must enter before' date is six months from the date of ISSUE.

They can (each) be extended for 30 days. If you leave the country you will need a new visa/entry to enter unless you buy a re-entry permit.

Hi There,

I thought it sounded a bit too convenient. At least I can get the 30 extention early, that makes things a little easier. Thank you for your response.... :o
