International Bank Transfer To Bangkok Bank - Have I Messed It up?!

Recommended Posts

Any knowledgeable folks out there, who could advise on this?

From reading some other threads, I understand the first three digits of a Bangkok bank account number are the bank's branch code.

Bangkok Bangkok now have a four digit system i.e. branch code is 0926, which confused me. I think probably you drop the first 0 from the account number. So 0926 should be 926 for the account number..? In which case, I've messed up the transfer, and am wondering what will happen.

If all the other details are correct  (name of receiver, branch code, branch address and  SWIFT code), will a human, eventually, pick up the error and be able to reconcile it?

Say if the error was like this. Incorrect vs. correct:

092 6 31880 2 8

926 0 31802 8

Anyone know anything about validation checks, at this end? Or is it completely automated, and could arrive at someone else's account? :0

Not sure best course of action..

Thanks a lot.

Jay

You should be ok. Look at your bank book. If it's like mine, it should have a 10-digit account number, not starting with 0. Even though my bank code is 0172, my THB account number is 172-x-xxxxx-x, which is 10 digits. I only make international wire xfers to my USD acct which is a 19-digit number.

When I make local incoming xfers to my THB acct, I use the 10-digit number, without the 0.

My experience is also if one makes a typographic error in the branch #/account#, there is a reasonable chance there is no such account.

And if there is no such branch or account, the transaction will be reversed (as part of the failure), one will end up with their money again in their account (albeit there will be a small fee for transferring the money back).

Still I agree that if you are uncertain, contact your bank and advise them of your error.
