A crash claimed the life of a man when he lost control of his pickup truck, overturned and collided with a light pole on the Ratchaburi-Pha Phak Road. The incident took place around 14:20 near Burachat Camp in Koh Phlapphla Subdistrict, Mueang Ratchaburi District.

Police Lieutenant Nattaphong Ajam of Mueang Ratchaburi Police Station responded to the accident, along with Ratchaburi Hospital medical personnel and members of the Phathom Borom Rachanuson Foundation. Upon arrival, responders found a white Isuzu pickup truck, license plate from Kanchanaburi, flipped over on its roof in the road’s median. The truck’s front right wheel had detached, and inside the vehicle was the body of the driver, Mr. Nipitphon aged 21, from Dan Makham Tia, Kanchanaburi.

The driver was trapped in the pickup and had sustained severe injuries, including deep wounds to his face, head, and wrists, along with fractures in his arms and legs. Blood was visible from his nose and mouth.

Nearby, a white Hino truck, license plate from Nakhon Pathom, driven by 53-year-old Mr. Somyot, was also found damaged. Mr. Somyot stated to the police that he had been driving in the opposite lane toward Chom Bueng when he witnessed the pickup truck lose control and strike a light pole. The impact caused the pickup’s detached wheel to collide with his own vehicle’s front, resulting in visible damage.

CCTV footage reviewed by the investigating officers confirmed that the pickup was traveling at a high speed when it overturned and struck the light pole and road sign, ultimately coming to a stop in the median with a wheel detached.

Mr. Nipitphon was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the forensic centre at Ratchaburi Hospital for further examination and the police continue their investigation.

So I would have to assume the driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

Some keywords from the article:

21year old, lost control, pickup truck, collided with a lightpole and high speed.

R.I.P. Every driver and motorcyclist should be reminded "Excessive Speed Kills!"

As usual, or 'comme  d'habitude'

Towards the end of the video it appears that the motor cycle rider misjudged the speed of the pickup coming towards him causing the pickup driver to take some avoiding action and subsequently losing control - either way the pickup driver was a fault for driving at excessive speed and without due care and attention. His youth and inexperience also led to his demise for not anticipating the actions of other equally foolish road users...

Sadly pickups still have bad handling chatmracteridtics compared to sedans. Also the positioning of road furniture will exacerbate the situation.
