Social media erupted with criticism following claims that Japan was set to end its visa-free entry for Thai tourists. The Japanese Embassy in Thailand has since confirmed that these reports are false.

 

On 6 November 2024, reports surfaced about a viral message on social media, suggesting that Japan would revoke its visa-free entry for Thai travellers for up to 15 days. This generated widespread speculation, especially as the end of the year marks a peak travel period.

The rumours had resurfaced after similar claims circulated earlier this year, alleging that some Thai tourists had overstayed their visas in Japan. Despite this, there was no official announcement to cancel the visa exemption for Thai nationals.
