Hi.

After months of pressure from the wife and kids I finally relented and we now have an eight week puppy.

Knowing nothing about breeds it looks a bit Spaniel to me. Anyone got any ideas?

Last night it kept us awake by crying at hourly intervals. Should we go out and see it or just leave it. What is the best thing to do ?

Thanks

yes it looks like a spaniel - very pretty! :D

honestly a puppy that young i would personally not let alone at night, if at all, not longer than an hour or two while it is sleeping in the day. it needs company ... also for bonding with you it's important to have him/her close... it's probably just separated from mother and siblings and very lonely now... take him in your room with you... if you don't like him in your bed, give him a nice bedding or crate in your room and teach him to stay there.

yes, the first nights with a new pup are quite sleepless :D:o

Looks very black flat-coat Retriever to me crossed with as you say maybe a spaniel, my wife's pug got raped by a small heathen of a Thai dog, shes given birth to two pug shaped pugs.

Looks too young to be away from its mother, when it cries, be there :o

Looks like a little (cocker?) spaniel to me. Very cute!

Very often these breeds are sold as 8 weeks old, but in fact they are just over a month.

The pic is not too clear, but I would have the pup checked out by the vet for worms (looks as if s/he has a little a potbelly). Further, I would be very careful with letting it run around outside your vicinities. On the pic I can see some eye discharge and I'm not sure, but it looks as if there's a little nasal discharge as well.

If the puppy is really about a month old it is very inadvisable to vaccinate it already. Better to wait till it's about 7 weeks of age.

Puppies this young can not stay alone. As Elfe stated have it sleep in a crate right next to your bed. When it whines a little you can just put your hand down to comfort it, similar what parents do with their baby (at least that's what some parents told me :o)

Anyway, congratulations with your new family member!

Thanks every one for replies.

His name is Lucky and he is beautiful.

Went and bought him a few things today and we were informed that their is a vet in the Khon Kaen University. Will take him over there for a check up today or tomorrow. (if the rain ever stops)

We may be a bit novice at this but he will be well taken care of.

Took him to Khon Kaen University animal hospital.

He was given a good check up and found to be very healthy , only slightly off colour due to change of enviroment or the change in the weather. He had a precautionary de worming and we were given a bottle of vitamin liquid.

All for 70 Baht. Peace of mind.
