Khama And Lying?

This is related to a thread in the general section, where a poster discovered his thai gf lied to him to get some money. Also you could say it is related to the subject of 'sponsoring' often talked about on the 'other' forums, often in the relation of many stories of sponsored tgs whom whilst receiving various amounts per month continue to carry on their 'trade' whilst pleading fidelity to their beaus overseas!

Now if these ladies whom i believe are quite numerous are devout buddhists, why do they lie knowing the effect this would have on their future souls/lives? Particularly as i understand from my little reading of buddhist scripture that you can come back as some pretty nasty things (insects, reptiles etc)

Perhaps what im saying is are Thai folk that really devoted? Do they really believe or are they simply as in all the other religions, going throught the motions?

Are you asking if the old Christian saying "the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak" applies to Thai Buddhists? If this is your question then the answer is emphatically yes. (Aside, wasn't Jesus reported to have said this while on the cross at the time of his death?)

Also, it may appear that the type of people you describe are "quite numerous", but in fact the type of person you describe is a very very small minority of the people in Thailand. I'm not saying that Thai people in general are any more or less honest then the people you describe, I'm only trying to say that the people you describe are probably not quite as numerous as you imagine.
