Perhaps this is why there is some form of 'anti-foreginer' bias amongst some when they complain about foreigners riding around on mopeds etc, breaking the rules and somehow ignoring the fact that a vast majority of Thai riders are worse.

It displays double standards.

IMO - if someone is riding like a t!t - they are riding like a t!t...  not much else to put it.

I'm trying to understand your comment...... let's look at a similar scenario.

So a monkey is trained to open a fridge door and remove a banana to eat but when this monkey was amongst other monkeys who had no training it would not open the fridge.

So therefore your trained monkey starves because it no longer has the ability to open the fridge door to remove a banana.

These foreigners have been trained differently therefore should behave differently.

Valid point - more 'Westerners' have had strong driver training and had to follow strict regulations for the majority of their lives...  When they break the rules here, they are well aware of what they are doing.

But, I also think Thai's are well aware of the rules and know exactly what rules they are breaking.

Both parties, Thai and Westerner, when breaking road rules here (no helmets, jumping lights etc) are well aware of their driving / riding standards.

Perhaps, Westerners are more alert to the consequences, and thats why better may be expected of them.

How about the inconsiderate tourists that I have driven very slowly behind them waiting for them to move, get the feck out the way...I am aware of using the born hence why I wait for people to move but these aholes think they are something else...no, go home the lot of them, rude self centered waste of space

Use it as a test for your own level of patience. The level of anger that you are exhibiting here, is likely what got the Brit into trouble in the first place.

It really doesn't matter who is right or wrong. No one is perfect. Accept that and chill. Try to enjoy each moment instead.

Yeah...that's what happens. Does the Brit still feel like a winner?

It isn't the school playground anymore, with the little girls reporting to teacher. Someone can end you and be out on the street shortly afterwards.

No, If someone is beating you in a fight, You swallow it and take it like a man.  Everyone loses fights.

Not here, not in this age. The party doesn't even start until you're on the ground, when all and sundry come to take out their frustrations on your twitching corpse.

Are you one of those who would refuse to give space to someone driving the wrong way down the road because you think you are in the right?

Who cares as to who is in the right? Avoid the accident and the ensuing stress and get home safely to hug your wife and kids.

The Brit needed to learn that lesson.  Again, unless himself or his bike was damaged, brush it off. No damage done.

If a wild dog chases your car/motorbike, do you stop and challenge it to fisticuffs? Are you a coward if you speed off or pick up a stone or a stick? Welcome to the real world. You don't have the same perspective of the chasing animal nor the time to discuss the rules of engagement.

You're very aggressive for someone who claims they don't get into fights.  My point was only cowards or people who can't fight use weapons. "Rules of engagement"  is just nonsense people spout to justify their cowardice.

Apologies if the following seems like 'gaslighting', but....   your comment, 'when in Rome'... implies you mimic Thai driving / riding behavior ???...

...Does that mean you drive and ride with reckless abandonment exampled by many drivers here?.. i.e. jumping red lights, riding without a helmet, tailgating, speeding, wrong way down a one way street, riding on the wrong side of the road, over taking on blind bends etc etc ???

Of course, not, you are not that daft......  'Adapting to' local driving behavior and standards, does not necessarily mean 'adopting' local driving behavior and standards... So, I don't think 'when in Rome' is a correct approach, unless you meant something else other than that implied by the statement.

Does "gaslighting" include citing only the extreme, worst-case and most dangerous acts of local driver stupidity?

Yes, I mimic the "local driving behavior and standards" here in Thailand, same as I mimic "local driving behavior and standards" when I'm on the 610 loop in Houston during rush hour, or haring up the M6 to Manchester at quarter-past dark already.

...and in Rome.
