A friend in early 50s seems to have inordinate amounts of hair falling off each day. Can someone recommend a specialist whom they have seen for this? Was blood test ordered and for what? Thanks.

How much hair is she losing per day? This sounds age related and there is nothing you can do to stop this short of hair transplant. There is a topical medication for women similar to  rogaine which seems to help "some" women.

My wife is 44 and I forced her to take biotin every day. That seems to have stopped the loss a bit.

Also she should avoid hair salons. Here in Thailand they put cheap chemicals which considerably damages the hair. Young women can recover this, but once you hit certain age, forget about it. I learned this the hard yaw when I asked wife to perm her hair and she ended up looking like Snape from Harry Potter. It literally took a year to recover from this,.

How much hair loss? Well everywhere she goes she leaves trails of hair that people comment on. Who suggested biotin? Did your wife see doc for this? Did she also use that product similar to Rogaine, what is name? And how did you purchase these? Thanks.

She did not see a doctor and did not use anything else besides biotin. Biotin is essentially vitamin b which helps stops hair loss.

At that time her loss was around 150 per day and probably more after washing. Now it is back to normal range 50 or so.....

Also, my wife started losing hair when she went on a strict diet which really disturbed me. She went from 51 to 42kg in 3 months which was a crazy thing to do. Your friend should make sure she eats properly and take biotin for a few months before seeing a doctor.

Have you yourself gone to this clinic and can recommend a particular specialist there? Thanks.

It's a government place, you cannot normally choose a doctor.  You will first be seen by a junior  doctor.

I have read that photobiomodulation (red/infrared light therapy) helps.  You’ll get plenty info if you google it.

My friend in France had this after loosing her husband. First thing to do, have a nice short haircut. Buy wide toothed good quality combs ,not brushes. Forget the dyes / perms/ chemicals for a year. Buy natural shampoos and conditioners from Boots. ( Kerastase?)

panic and worry makes it worse.
Buy Biotin and Bepathene vitamin course.  Repeat if necessary.  (My friend had them injected 3 times a week but I doubt that’s possible in Thailand. )

She now has a full head of hair again after 9 months.
Years back, you could buy MINOXIDIL, it’s usually for balding in men, but can be used for ladies. It’s a serum you put on your hair, parting the hair in lines from the ears left to right and lightly rubbing the serum in . A bit boring to do but that was ordered from a very well know  dermatologist in Cannes France. Plus the 2 vitamins taken religiously over 3 months +++.
There is no other options except wigs or hair replanting which is extreme.

She might have a thyroid problem / hormonal imbalance. Can be checked by a full blood test . See doctor. Cheap and easy to do.
