Here is a typical news story from Pattaya Mail. What surprises me is a sentence in the first section of the article that mentions: "Foreign police volunteers".

Who are these people?

Comments, please!

Police raid the Jade, charge service girls 500 baht

PATTAYA: -- Special crime suppression units stormed the Jade Berlin House, in Jomtien Nivate Village, at around 8.30 p.m. on July 9. The sting operation was enabled when foreign police volunteers set up the sting by using marked banknotes to pay a bar fine.

Once the transaction was made the undercover volunteer sent a signal to police outside to move in.

Officers moved and visited the bar’s rooms where there were a number of people involved in sexual acts. They were ordered to get dressed while the remaining officers rounded up 33 other bar staff and the mamasan.

All 33 service girls were piled into waiting police vehicles and hauled off to Soi 9 for questioning. The girls were each fined 500 baht before being released.

The mamasan was charged with operating a business involved in procuring women to sell sexual services as well as operating an entertainment business without the relevant approvals. She was locked up in Soi 9 awaiting further judicial proceedings.

There are two farang police volunteers that I know. One is Howard, of Pattaya City News, and the other is Niels of Pattaya People and Pattaya Expats Club. Howard assures me he would never take part in any of these undercover stings, though he has been asked. I don't know about Niels, but I don't think he would. Howard is actually on this forum, so maybe he could reply.

There are many other farang police volunteers (you can see them any night on Walking Street) and maybe they would take part in such sting operations.

I have heard, however, and I must stress that this is only a rumour, that some of the "volunteers" have been arrested for overstay or other misdemeanour and have been offered the choice of a stay in the Monkey House followed by deportation, or "they could do a little job for the police and wipe their slate clean."

I think I could understand if they took the latter option, but anyone who does this kind of operation without coercion, I call traitors and bullies. :o

Considering you call yourself news editor, you aren't up on the latest news are you? Farang Tourist Police Volunteers have been discussed here in detail on many occassions, do a search and you will learn more! Also Chris, a volunteer has had his picture in the papers and on TV after carrying out a sting on lady boys along Beach Road recently. Howard is big enough to make his own comments on these new volunteers, but I know his views on this type of thing.

WCR,

NewsEditor is Admin on this board so he knows what is going on, I guess he is just trying to bring the issue of Volunteers up again, maybe he is against it and does not want to comment himself so is doing this so others do, just my opinion.

Let me try and answer some of the questions now.

Yes we have a new batch of ferrang tourist police volunteers, the whole idea has become very popular. Whether their intentions are honorable or not, only time will tell. I personally told them of the pitfalls of doing it but they still did it.....up to them.

There are two ferrang volunteers who are working for the main Pattaya Police at the moment and it appears they will do anything. Their work is in no way connected with the Tourist Police. I am just praying they dont start spying on gogo bars, especially on Walking Street. This would cause all of us some problems I feel. I dont know who the two men are but they are obviously doing it to gain some favors from the boys in brown, or maybe as said previosuly they have been caught doing something bad and are "paying-back" the police in exchange for a let-off. I dont know what is going on here I'm afraid.

Neils Colov is now a volunteer also, probaby thought I was getting too much publicity from this so he now wants a share. For now I like to work alone or with one other volunteer called Chris. When I say alone I mean accompanied by a regualr officer of course but not with other ferrangs.

I am very busy over the next few days and will not be checking the forum so I will not be making any more contributions to this thread.....sorry.

Howard

Howard, I have always admired the job you do to help tourists, but it is time for you to stop.

When people ostensibly performing the same duties as you are helping raid S.T. establishments then your high profile will lead you into trouble. You will become a target despite your good intentions.

Risky business...

I agree with them for getting involved with tourists who need assistance but the sting operations and squealing to the police will eventually get them into a baaaad situation and have 'em say "What was I thinking???" That is... if they are given enough time to think...

What I wonder attracted these people to Sin City in the first place? If they want to play 'special constables' I for one say GO HOME. I would have thought Howard for example would have quite a busy life, however, it is understandable in his case that he needs to currie favour with the boys in brown to keep getting his so called scoops. The other bunch of downbeats, I for one sincerely hope get their cumuppence....What a bunch of losers. As for the sad case who assisted in the Jomtien sting operation, I only hope one of these dark nights someone meets him in some dark alley! preferably half a dozen Yaba crazed ladyboys with big spiked stilleto heels to weild. Pathetic bunch of C***s.....Clicker

perhaps a farang tourist police officer with a desk job would be a better idea?

Yes ... helping Arkala with the office work pertaining to the new cub intake. Get rid of the lot of them that wander the streets NOW. One might think that the police heavies have more pride than playing games with this lot.

Wouldn't it be nice to have mug shots of all these losers so they could be posted all over the web & all around town. Easy to stick a small poster up in most toilets, which, after all is where they belong! Clicker

How can you all critisise fine upstanding members of the community like Howards gang , without them the good name of Pattaya would be lost forever :D

I must add, in Howards defence , that I have seen him in a certain gogo bar quite a few times over the last few weeks and it hasn't been raided....yet :o

Do these fake cops have work permits.

Perhaps the Labour Dept should look into the "work" they are doing?

Work. either paid or unpaid, requires a work permit. Hmmm let's call a volunteer cop to get this sorted. Clear 'em out or, at the very least clear the so called volunteer's and their supporters out of the Thaivisa forum. Send 'em to the Baden-Powell School of Police Management.

I don't think it's a good idea for the farang to get into a situation like this, but if you are forced into by the boys in brown you should have them send you to a different city to do this type of work.

another words "don't <deleted> in your own yard" most dogs have enough sense not to do this.

It has the possbilty to come back and bite you in the arse.

"but if you are forced into by the boys in brown"

FORCED into it? I don't think so. If you do the crime, do the time. Becoming a snitch or a snoop for the brown shirts is a new low for any falang and some angry Thai is going to take serious issue with the guy when his business or other interests are disrupted.

The guy in question in the Jade set-up probably has NO CLUE how much shit he is into. Once there is blood on the ground we'll see how much "fun" these volunteers think they are into. Sad, but it is bound to happen IMO.

Helping the Tourist Police at concerts and around Tourist Areas IMO is cool enough.

Undercover!!!! reported in the Local Newspaper! very undercover is VERY dangerous ground.

There are many real undercover foreigners that work with the Thai Police and various Embassoies but they are real ones.

Whatever is going on it Pattaya and the 'Jade' type case is very strange for sure.

Should we not distinguish here between the Tourist police (dressed in black, with large tourist police insignia) and the local gendarmerie (aka 'the Boys in Brown')?

The former have been set up to assist tourists, in the main. To sort out troubles between shop-keepers and tourists who think they've been ripped off, to return wallets nicked by over-aggressive katoeys, to understand the drunken German trying to pay in Monopoly money.

The boys in brown are there to arrest wrong-doers, of whatever caregory. And keep the peace while doing so.

To volunteer to help the TP means that a guy with the same language as you, looking like you, comes to your assistance with a local TP officer. This could definitely help to de-fuse some hairy situations. And I've seen plenty in Pattaya.

To volunteer to help the boys in brown is to act as an agent provocateur and you deserve all that's coming to you. (And that will almost certainly be twice as much as you bargained for). Whether a voluntory olunteer or pressed into service, the guy(s) will be fingered by the friends of the bar owner in the police force to the friends of the bar owner outside the police force. And that will be painful.

Both of you can be proud of yourselfs :o .

You both suck at your job as a presenter of a tv medium. You both have lousy interviews with the same old "Dickheads" Farang in Pattaya, sort like the "Crazy Dave's" and consorts.

And now you even become snitches for the police :D . Sure you can stamp the mark LOW LIFE on your head. Idiots....

The bullet is coming, i presume.

Dr. you have some strange comments about police officers. Must be a reason why. Come to thier attention have you in the past? :o

I've never, ever run into a problem with make believe coppers anywhere. They are not a feature of western law enforcement these days. The practice, in fact, seems to only be a feature of Pattaya. The new world headquarters of Bovver Boys Boy Scouts, Inc.

When one of these guys gets the crap beaten out of him, or shot, they will all pack up playing cops and robbers.

Some Thai go go bar owner who loses a lot of money because of these guys, will take action, maybe these farangs don't really understand the way things work here, but they will learn one day, i know that i would not get involved with taking money out of peoples pockets, especially being involved with getting Girls fined 500 baht each, that's unforgivable, they have a shit enough life anyway, without some smug, self important, egotistical azzhole watching them get 500 baht taken away for doing what they do, cos nobody ever gave them white fukking skin and a good education. I don't give a toss about you escorting some drunken sex tourist to the cells to cool off, but when Thai Girls are being fined through the actions of these Pricks, i think that is very much out of order, go back to your own countries and play cops in the streets of Liverpool or Manchester, Tossers!!

As far as i am concerened, these farang are marked men, and the Thai's will sort them out, the Cops know who they are, and the Cop's are involved in many Thai owned Bars and Nightclubs, it's just a matter of time before they force these guys to quit, by shooting one of them the rest will quickly hand over the handcuffs and stop playing cops and robbers, its no game.
