5-Year-Old Boy Killed in Road Accident in Nakhon Si Thammarat

A tragic collision claimed the life of a 5-year-old boy after he was struck by a pickup truck while crossing the road. The incident occurred at approximately 10:05 on Novemebr 22, on Route 401 near a glass and aluminum shop in Ban Sra Bua, Moo 6, Tha Sala Subdistrict, Tha Sala District.

 

The victim, identified as Master Ratchanon, was attempting to cross the busy road when the collision occurred. Emergency responders from the Tai Tek Tung Foundation and Tha Sala Police Station arrived swiftly at the scene, where they found the child lying lifeless on the road with severe head injuries.

 

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Mr. Somboon, 74, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. The front of his vehicle showed visible signs of impact.

 

Witnesses reported that the child had been walking with another person before suddenly walking onto the road to cross it without looking. However, police have yet to confirm the identity of the companion.

 

Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage and gathering witness statements to determine the exact cause of the collision. The boy’s body was released to his family for funeral arrangements after an initial examination by medical personnel from Tha Sala Hospital.

oh dear Georgealbert,  this is very sad and disturbing news, the poor boy was only 5 years old,  he should have just waited until the traffic was clear.  

That silly lady standing like she's a Russian mud wrestler playing on her mobile.

Again....education should start at home, not that Thais could teach much about road safety.

Road safety education appears to be non existent in Thailand!

Back in the UK, in the 1950's, things like this were drummed into us at school.

There were even road safety lessons in the junior schools.

In senior schools, these progressed to bike riding and even a riding test.

For adult drivers, there were the black and white TV commercials.

Agreed...  but none of this is going to help a 5 year old, they are simply too young, too inexperienced to truly under stand the risks.... 

 

Suggesting 'he should have waited' [steven100] - highlights a true lack of understanding of 5 year olds - I'm sure we'll get some anecdotal codswollop that your 5 year olds new not to cross a road on their own, to which I'll have to call total bo!!ox - so don't bother.

 

The fact of this matter is that near any road or hazard any guardian should be holding the hand of any child at or near this age....    as tragic as this is, it is very poor parenting / poor guardianship.

 

Even at 10 years old, I still will not walk along a road without holding my child's hand. 

We will not walk through a busy Mall or Busy airport without holding his hand.

 

It basic security and its so very tragic that the guardians of this child were either complacent of the risks or were simply not educated of the elevated level of risk in such situations.

 

Poor lad and poor family - I can't imagine the pain.

Indeed...   I see it in Bangkok too... 

Kids walking down the road with the Maid - and the maid is reading their phone while the 'western kid' is walking next to them... 

 

I often see kids walking with an adult (mum or maid), they're holding the 'guardians hand' but the kid os on the outside (road side) when there isn't even a pavement...

 

 

... There are so many people around so ignorant the risks and basic measures they could be taking.
