I did a border run to Cambodia on the 11th and have a 60 day stamp, but I'm almost out of pages so I need to mail it in for renewal. My question is, how soon can I go to Immigration to get the 30 day extension after arriving, and will it have any adverse effect on the passport renewal process? I'm American, so I'm mailing to the American embassy, and have already completed all the forms and requirements, but I'm now considering getting a 30 day extension so as to give me maximum cushion for processing time, but I'm wondering if it could cause a problem either at immigration or in the passport renewal process?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Here is thread discussing process however does not address your specific question.

I recently renewed Oz passport. Total 20 days online process.

Recent report of time for renew USA pp (can't find it) process times has come down from the thread attached.

I would sit tight and apply for the 30 days extension when pp has not arrived and you then realize need for more time

Totally off topic, your Oz passport renewal has ZERO to do with renewing at the US embassy.

For heaven's sake. I overlooked stating  that several months ago passport renewal across the board has greatly improved in recent times..

Oz pp renewal a year ago taking much longer than now.

I then added ......

"Recent report of time for renew USA pp (can't find it) process times has come down from the thread attached."

There was recent post USA passport process time has also improved.

Just for once make a post that addresses OP helpfully.

Thanks all for the replies. So is there any issue with extending 30 days even though I'm just 13 days into my current 60 day stamp? I was never really sure on how soon we can go for the 30 day extension after arriving in Thailand.

Which immigration office.

Some may do it early some/many will not.

Couple of weeks early is the norm.

An agent would be able to do it in the timeframe you indicate.

Which immigration office?

Processing time per the USEMBTHL is up to six to eight weeks.

Recent reports, this year, have been five to seven weeks, but some reports with shorter turn-around times (3 ~ 4 weeks).

Ideally, you'd mail it in the same day you got a sixty-day stamp.

Not sure any office will provide a 30-day extension with 47 days on the clock?

Tricky situation.

I might consider leaving today, re-enter on a new 60 day stamp, then mail the DS-82 package.

Don't see why he cannot apply for the 30 day extension while the application for pp renewal is being processed.

For a U.S. passport renewal you have to submit your current passport. I do not think you can apply for an extension if you do not have your passport in hand.

For some reason I was under the impression that ONLINE renewal of passport for USA citizens is now possible. You mail the required forms and copies + payment but not the actual passport to embassy bangkok

No so?

Perhaps a USA person can update with recent experience

If you are living in the USA, you can renew online, but if you are living in a foreign country you cannot.  In Thailand you have to mail your current passport to the embassy when you apply.

All the details are in the link to the thread you attached.
