When you can apply in the main depends on immigration office.

Regards question about obtaining 60 day extension from visa exempt ....

Here is a cut and paste from ubonjoe

"You can apply for a 60 day extension to visit your child it you have not gotten one since your last entry to the country with a new visa.

You can apply for the extension with any type of entry"

I will apply from Khon kaen immigration lawyer

Much better just visit neighboring country and walk back in. No special scrutiny who you are and what you do.

Well if the 60 days covers that then no problem.

Aside note for others : for a longer stay obtain 30day extension followed by 60 day extension.

Must be done in that order as it's different class.

I assume it's the same if married to a Thai spouse?

- right now in Thailand with a single (no multiple anymore) NON-O based on marry

- later doing a 60 day extension

- one week holiday in Japan

- come back with 60 day visa exemption

- 30 day extension

- 60 day extension based on marry

- going to home country for some time

This sounds ok? Thanks for a hint.

Should be fine.

The 30 day extension from the visa exempt entry must be done first followed by the 60.

Note: there was a recent report of immigration office refusing the 60 extension to visit wife.

When doing the 30 day extension check with immigration your plan.

Which office?

Aside: for anyone obtaining 30 day extension from visa exempt entry you do that a LakSi IT mall

Here is link to a site that has very clear instructions

Here is a cut and paste from ubonjoe on this matter. He explains why both extensions are possible as different categories.

Isn't Pathum Thani however mentions CW and entry from visa exempt.

"Chaeng Wattana immigration has issued the 60 day extension of a tourist visa and visa exempt entry after the 30 day extension of them were issued.. More than one report about it.

The 2 extensions are not the same category is the reason they will issue them. The 60 day extension is issued due to being married to a Thai or the parent of one. A 30 day extension is issued for touristic purposes and the 60 day extension is issued to visit a family member that is Thai."

It's not just possible, many immigration offices will actually require you to take the 30 day extension first before they will even entertain a request for the 60 day extension.  Not sure why that is.

Many reports of that not being the case.

There is zero reason for need to apply for 30 day extension prior to 60 day "to visit wife/family"

Lol. Try doing that a few times and you will be interrogated and scrutinized about who you are and what you do in Thailand.

Only if you enter via one of the known-bad entry points - in which case, one needs to pay them via their agent for "no hassle" entry.
