Thailand Airport Expansion Spurs Compensation Talks for Impacted Homes

Airports of Thailand (AOT) has announced plans to compensate property owners affected by the third runway project at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, now scheduled for completion in early 2025. This development was highlighted by Bangkok City Council Chairman, Surajit Phongsingwitthaya, who indicated that the exact number of affected properties is still under assessment.

 

The new runway, which extends four kilometres in length and 60 metres in width, is strategically positioned parallel to the airport's first runway and is intended primarily for landings. Its creation is poised to boost the airport's capacity significantly, increasing it from 68 to 94 planes per hour, tackling the growing demands of air travel.

 

 

Officials are focused on mitigating environmental impacts, with the Pollution Control Department measuring noise levels in surrounding neighbourhoods. This proactive approach underscores a commitment to minimising disruption for local residents.

 

Recent discussions, involving multiple key agencies such as AOT, the Transport Ministry, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, were held to address residents' inquiries about the compensation process. While specifics regarding financial compensation and other forms of support are yet to be shared, anticipation remains high among those likely to be impacted. As the project progresses, residents eagerly await more detailed information on their compensation and support options during this significant infrastructural transition.

so funny...still got nothing... bought a condo but the old owner did not disclose 3rd runway plans over the condo...  they knew as they filed for compensation months before the sale and hoped even to get the compensation... informed the authority, with all evidence I am the new owner... they gave checks to all other owners, but my check, is under consideration... why ? they have all info about my condo and how much they were ready to pay the old owner...   guess they might try, you farang, no compensation... but then I will go to ombudsman, only the 4th time then...  first time was with immigration silly rules denying change of visa extension from marriage (divorce) to parent of thai child, second was land department not wanting to grant co-ownership for my kids, agreed in court, 3rd time was my bank pretending not to find my legally sent money to thailand more then 10 years ago to be able to buy this damn condo that I bought far away from the main road, to have peace and quiet... hahaha... I know the reactions here... due diligence, rent, don't buy... no fault for old owner to lie about the plans, right... no recourse in court... no punitive damages for cheating...
