Elon Musk’s Rumored $100 Million Donation to Nigel Farage Sparks Political Speculation

Featured Replies

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur behind Tesla and X (formerly Twitter), is reportedly considering a substantial $100 million donation to Nigel Farage, a move that could have significant implications for British politics ahead of the next general election. Musk, who has demonstrated support for controversial political figures like Donald Trump, is allegedly eyeing the far-right Reform UK party as a vehicle for his political influence.

According to *The Times*, Musk’s potential goal is to bolster Farage’s political ambitions, perhaps even aiding his rise to the role of prime minister. This speculation follows Musk’s recent involvement in U.S. politics, where he spoke at a Republican rally and publicly aligned himself with Trump’s policies.

Sources suggest that Musk might navigate Britain’s stringent foreign donation laws by channeling the £78 million equivalent of his pledged support through the UK branch of X, the social media platform he owns. This strategy could enable Musk to provide financial backing without running afoul of legal restrictions on overseas contributions to British political campaigns.

Nigel Farage, former UKIP leader and now a prominent figure in Reform UK, confirmed his connection to Musk, stating: “All I can say is that I’m in touch with him and he is very supportive of my policy positions. We both share a friendship with Donald Trump, and Trump has said good things about me in front of Musk. We’ve got a good relationship with him.”

Musk’s interest in Reform UK was further highlighted when he reacted enthusiastically on social media to the news of Conservative MP Dame Andrea Jenkyns defecting to the party. Musk tweeted a spirited “yes” in response to speculation about a potential Farage-led government.

Reform UK has recently made notable strides in the political landscape, securing over four million votes in the last election and gaining five MPs, including Farage and deputy leader Richard Tice. With the Conservative Party under pressure following the election of Kemi Badenoch as its leader, Reform UK’s growing prominence, coupled with a significant financial boost, could challenge traditional voting patterns.

Farage, however, has refrained from confirming Musk’s rumored donation. When questioned, the Reform UK leader remained noncommittal, leaving the matter open to further speculation.

Attempts to seek comment from Musk’s team have been met with humor characteristic of his leadership at X. One of his first actions after acquiring the platform was to replace all press inquiries with an automated response featuring a poo emoji.

While the exact details of Musk’s involvement remain unclear, the potential combination of his financial clout and Farage’s populist appeal could introduce a new dynamic into British politics, raising questions about the influence of global billionaires in domestic elections.

Is this in retaliation to Labour summoning Musk to appear before them to explain himself ?

Well Vern the crazy old geezer in the cave handled things pretty badly. Musk offered a solution that wouldn't work. Vern could have opened a conversation and told Elon what would be needed or how to help. Instead of having the richest man in the earth helping him Vern opened his stupid mouth and made sure that didn't happen. Because this was Vern's day to shine and Elon won't take the only thing he had ever achieved in life away from him.

The torpedo wouldn't have worked but Elon could have probably come up with something else. If nothing else a ton of financial support. Then Vern sued got called an idiot and flew back on coach. he will always be known as the pedophile in the cave.

I fail to see how buying Twitter at that valuation could be considered retaliation they forced him to close that deal.

Labour have made some powerful enemies in the US corridors of power. Stupid, even by their standards. Great to see Musk supporting Labour's opponents and very predictable that the article labels Reform as "Far Right" when they are nothing of the sort.

Reform UK, and Farage, would be fools to get involved with Trump/Musk.

It would kill the movement stone dead.

Musk tried to turn it into the Elon Musk show .

100's of people were working hard and risking their lives to save the kids underground and Musk was in the TV studios telling everyone about himself and his machines .

Vern did make quite a rude comment about Musk , but Musk could have just ignored it , but Musk ferociously and relentlessly attacked Vern.

Musk did rather ruin the whole rescue as it turned from a joyous occasion to a unpleasant online fight with horrendous and untrue accusations from Musk .

Musk showed himself to be rather unhinged .

Musk also stated that *Vern must be a pedo , for what other reason would a Westerner live in Thailand for*

If the Musk show would have been entertained it could have resulted in billions of dollars. Vern was proof that the average guy in a cave isn't worth a thought' what's Vern been up to these days? Thailand a could have had the world's biggest sugar daddy. But Vern didn't want it.

I wonder what makes him so infatuated with the likes of Trump and Farage?  Got to be some hidden agenda, as in most respects he seems like a clever chap.

The agenda is not hidden or even subtle.

Musk was on television telling the World how he plans to use boring machines to mine for  minerals on mars and about his space rockets and all about him and his companies and how he could get the kids out .

You can understand  Vern being annoyed with Musk .

Elon Musk craves attention and he probably sees  Nigel Farage as a useful conveyance. Farage is going to go very close to being the UKs next PM and if Musk can help him get there Elon will once again share the limelight.

Let's face it . The UK is broken and it is ripe for reformation but not under this pathetic Labour government who have got the reverse Midas touch . Next UK spring by- elections will be a disaster for Labour . The Reforms Party  Farage and Tice are well informed politicians and would have a close connection with the U.S.A. and trade deals .

Starmer and Lammy will be the cause of tariffs for UK exports to the U.S.A.  Indeed they are a couple of plonkers .  Rachel from accounts is the Chancellor of the exchequer , what a farce .

Musk is a pioneer who thinks outside of the box and along with Trumps input + Reform , it may just be possible to save the UK from the abyss . At the moment we have the Muppet show running the UK .

That kind of foreign interference should be illegal everywhere. It's deplorable that an American oligarch can sponsor political campaigns in the UK.

The state of British politics almost demands a bit of outside help and Nigel Farage could be just what the doctor ordered. I reckon Maggie would approve.

Clacton? Wot's a Clacton?

Some useful background information on Musk's rumored donation:

"What are the rules on UK political donations and how might Labour change them?"

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/dec/02/what-are-the-rules-on-uk-political-donations-and-how-might-labour-change-them

"Manifesto promise to tighten regulations given urgency by speculation Elon Musk could give $100m to Reform UK"

  • "The key requirement for donors to be permissible, according to the Electoral Commission, is that they must be registered in the UK – either by being a voter on the electoral register or a UK company, trade union or LLP. They can also be unincorporated associations in the UK."

How could Musk make a donation to Reform?

  • "Two potential avenues have been floated: either through the UK arm of the social media company X or by securing UK citizenship, which his father Errol has said he is eligible for because his grandmother was British."

I can't see any problem with this, as long as the money comes from one of Musk's UK sources. As an aside, I gather Musk has a British grandparent.

elon apparently pays ZERO tax on his billions...

Is it legal in UK?

Normal in USA.

I thought we call it corruption in Australia.

Going by the case of Frank Madafferis donations to Australian labor party. Found in court to be corruption.

So we should expect similar retaliation against Vance for his very hostile anti-Trump comments.

Also, the Labour volunteers who went to the US is not even slightly unusual. The tories have also sent volunteers to assist the Republicans and I also noted that one Mr N Farage - a party leader - went to assist Trump, which would be monstrously hypocritical.

In the current replay of history, Musk is playing the part of Krups.
