Visa Debit Card.

Featured Replies

I want to book an apartment in the UK, but filling in my bank details with Agoda it seems that for this apartment they only accept Visa debit cards and I only have a Mastercard, is there any way round this? Do I need to open an account with a bank that has Visa debit cards and transfer some funds there?

Don't book any UK apartment until you have seen the property and confirmed who the owners are .

There are lots of scammers out there

Use another website that uses MasterCard

No I have seen the place when I was in the UK 3 months ago, and was very impressed with it and want to book it for next May. So I filled it in, then when they asked about debit cards there was only Visa and both my Thai and UK debit cards are Mastercards.

And you are definitely dealing with the owners of the property ?

I have tried Booking.com and Agoda. I think it may be down to the apartments themselves, what other website is there? Surely they must do themselves out of business only accepting Visa card.

No, the booking agents. I have just sent an email to the place, but it's early yet, the UK is 7 hours behind us.

No I got a card from the lady in the office, it is a very big place with lots of apartments.

Kasikorn issues visa debit cards on saving accounts.

But if you want a name on the debit card then they have to mail it out to you, the one they can issue in just a few minutes inside the bank when you open the account will not have a name embossed on it but it will still work.

I don't know who owns the property but it is run by a lady who works in the office.

I used to stay every year in a hostel which also had individual rooms as well as dormatories, and I only knew the lady in the office. I never knew anything about owners.

Do you have an iPhone?  If so, you have a wallet on the phone.  It comes with a Cash card to which you can add money.  When you set it all up, you designate a bank for transferring money in and out of the card.  Perhaps you can set it up with your Mastercard bank if that's what you have, then transfer money onto the cash card from the bank. At that point, the cash card becomes a Visa debit card loaded with however much money you added to it.

Thanks everyone for your help, I suppose I should want to see the back of Agoda with their 17% taxes in the small print.

I used booking.com and paid with my Mastercard.

Both of which are part of the same umbrella company.

That's down to your settings and can be set to show the full price from the outset.
