Yep. Sugarcane stations are open, lorries and tractors are hauling their loads all day long.

No burning yet, but only a matter of days.

I checked the AQ about a month ago.....it was five times worse than central London then!!!! God only knows what it will be end of January.

I was walking the dog at sunset on the farm on Sunday and heard the unmistakable crackle from a couple of fields away, followed by large plumes of black smoke.

It's coming.

Call the cops and demand a jail sentence.

Here they do not call the police, they go to the village chief to solve problems.

What can he or she do about it, nothing. The only thing these farmers nderstand is economic punishment or prison.

That is helpful, but you cannot stay inside all day. Eventually, you will experience the pollution.

Why would you live there? only yourself to blame.

These burnings on top of all the traffic pollution is so dangerous to your health you should wear a mask all day long! I start to wonder if it really is worth the risk staying longer than 2 weeks at the time here.

Maybe it’s because he doesn’t want to live anywhere near crass, insensitive, rude people like you.  A price worth paying, I’d say.

According to your expression, by crass, insensitive, rude people you mean yourself:post-4641-1156694572:

It will never change

until the last farmer dies of some lung related illness they will continue to burn as they have forever.  SInce the pollution affected illnesses take quite some time to actually begin to cause deteriorated health they just don't believe that doctors are telling them the truth.  Many smokers still don't believe that lung almost all lung cancer deaths are caused by smoking.  It took many trials and heavy fines on the manufacturers before they stopped fighting as the courts finally agreed with they doctors

I only stayed once during burning season, but when I had smoke damage in my house the N95 mask worked wonders - the type with the valve in front. Might be worth looking into, that's what I would do if I was ever stuck there again

Yes, a few years ago I lived in 'sugar-cane country'. Not only was there a 24 hour fog but the water was often turned off too. Car was often covered with black flakes. Now I have a next door neighbour who burns everything from plastic to dog's poo.
