A collision occurred at 16:00 on December 13, when a trailer truck making a U-turn failed to see an oncoming motorcycle, resulting in a violent collision. The crash took place at the intersection of the old Nong Prue Road with Highway 344 in the Nong I Run area, Ban Bueng District, Chonburi.

Upon arriving at the scene, police officers and emergency responders found two individuals severely injured. Volunteer rescuers from the Seeltham Samakkee Rescue Foundation of Ban Bueng immediately began CPR, but despite their efforts, one of the victims, identified as 39-year-old Ms. Sunan  succumbed to her injuries shortly after. She had been riding the motorcycle at the time of the crash. The other victim, a male whose identity remains unknown, was unconscious and unresponsive. He was administered first aid and transported to Ban Bueng Hospital.

The motorcycle, a white and black Honda Wave 110i was found lying on its side by the side of the road with significant front-end damage. Approximately 100 metres away, the trailer truck, an 18-wheel Hino model was parked on the left shoulder of the road, with visible damage to its fuel tank guard, indicating it had been struck by the collision.

According to the truck driver, Mr. Samo he was driving from Laem Chabang and was heading towards a factory near the crash site to pick up goods. Upon reaching the turn onto the old Nong Prue Road, he saw the motorcycle far off in the distance. As he made the U-turn, he heard a noise from the side of the truck. He then moved the truck to the shoulder and stopped to find the two injured individuals.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the scene to gather further evidence. The truck driver has been taken into custody for questioning, and the police will follow legal procedures in accordance with the investigation.

As an aside, here on Samui, motorbikes are at the bottom of the food chain on the roads.

Most folk ignore them, assuming that they will stop or get out of the way.

Every week, I see vehicles about to pull out onto the road in front of me. They hesitate and then pull out anyway.

ie the biggest vehicle has the right of way!

The truck driver mentioned in the story, maybe saw the bike but.......

I don't know how people drive here.. If I look at people on a motorcycle it seems they are hypnotized... Looking straight forward, no adjusting at traffic only to avoid obstacles, but keep on their speed, stop suddenly in the middle of the road or at a shop or turn left or right. They look like robots programmed from going from point A to B and than when they are at their destiny they become human again.

Except when their phone is ringing than they react.. Never see a motorcycle slow down or wait..

This situation is probably the same .. The truck makes a U turn but the motorcycle just drives without looking, thinking, slow down, brake or avoid...

Apparently there is a law in Thailand that all vehicles that are bigger are always wrong. So in this case the truck is bigger than the motorcycle so he is wrong. A motorcycle bigger than a pedestrian, the motorcycle is wrong, If you know that you are always wrong when things happen I can imagine you don't start to care anymore and the fines, punishments are so low that it doesn't even scare them off
