snoop1130 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 File photo for reference only The Thai cabinet has approved expanding the "digital wallet" program, offering 10,000 baht to citizens aged 60 and above. Payments will be made before January 29, ahead of the Chinese New Year. To qualify, seniors must register via the "thang rath" app. This second phase has a budget of 40 billion baht, aiding four million seniors. Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat mentioned that those without smartphones can register through alternative methods after New Year, with details to be announced. The scheme's first phase began in late September, disbursing 10,000 baht each to 14.5 million people with disabilities and state welfare cardholders directly into their bank accounts. Delays in the second phase were caused by financial challenges. Meanwhile, about 20 million people from other age groups are still awaiting support. -- 2024-12-24 1

Why are folks having problems with that?

Not come up with other promises while you haven't fulfilled your first one. 2 1
kingstonkid Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 The only issue is that most seniors can not afford a fancy smart phone nor how to operate it. In order for them to get the 10 K they have to spend 7 k on a phone \ I am I missing something here. 1 1

My wife's sister, who holds a welfare card, has already received her 10k and she's never had a smartphone in her life. I have no interest in the former but I am pleased to see that they have dropped that totally impractical 'Digital Wallet' scheme that was never going to work and are now being practical and simply handing out the cash. Better late than never as the adage goes. 1

Quoting the whole paragraph makes it glaringly obvious why 20 million are still waiting. Another adage for you to ponder: 'You can't get blood out of a stone'. connda Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Just a heads-up, but come the next election cycle, when all the candidates are again sporting, "Vote For Our Party And We Will Give You ฿10,000 ฿20,000!", how many dumb Thai voters will fall for it a second time? Don't answer that question, I know the answer. 1

As I have already indicated in an earlier post, I do not discuss politics, be Thailand's or any other nation's. Including my own. If that is your desire, please go and find someone else to annoy, pester, hold discourse with.
